The MCC  (Municipal Corporation Chandigarh), regulates Chandigarh city, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana.  Formed under the Punjabi Municipal Corporation Act in 1976, MCC got extended in 1994 by the Punjab Municipal Corporation Law (Extension to Chandigarh) Act.  

In June 1995, M.P Tyagi became the first Commissioner of the Corporation. He held the title till December 1996 after which S.K. Gathwal took over. Currently, Ravi Kant Sharma serves as the Mayor of Chandigarh. 

The Commissioner holds the topmost position in the municipal administration hierarchy and is responsible for running the administration. Appointed by the Central government, the Commissioner is also in charge of the passing and implementation of the yearly Municipal Corporation policies, programmes and budgets. All the workforce of the MCC works under the Commissioner’s control and supervision. 

Presently, Anindita Mitra holds the Commissioner’s title of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh. As a city-state as well as Union Territory, Chandigarh does not have a legislative assembly but hosts the assemblies of Haryana and Punjab. 2 Days The Registrar approves the correction and returns the document to the dealing assistant.
2 Days The dealing assistant makes corrections and submits the register for signature to the Registrar in the records. 
2 Days After signing the birth & death records, the Registrar returns them to the dealing hand for the certification preparation. 
2 Days The dealing hand gives the application to the Data Entry operator for the preparation of the birth and death certificate. After data preparation, the Data Entry operator hands it over counter no. 1 or 2. 

Timeline for Non-Availability of Certificate in MCC

1 Day The data entry operator then forwards the applicant’s case to the Registrar for signatures. 

How to Get a Death Certificate in Municipal Corporation Chandigarh?

Obtaining a death certificate requires you to follow a step by step procedure: 

  • The applicant will require getting the application form from the enquiry counter 
  • The applicant will then fill out the application and attach ID proof such as the Aadhar Card and visit the cash counter. 
  • The official will verify if the particulars in the computer system are accurate or not, ask for fees and issue the cash receipt with the date of certificate collection. 
  • In case the particulars have an error, or are incorrect, the official will advise the application to contact the dealing hand.
