The travelling time to the Basanti Highway will be reduced from the southern outskirts of Kolkata to the tune of around 30 minutes. The KMC (Kolkata Municipal Corporation) is hoping to execute the two-lane link road to Basanti Highway from the EM Bypass Crossing-Avishikta Connector prior to Durga Puja. The KMC is currently in the last stage of work for this project. Several travellers from south-western Kolkata including Garden Reach, Kidderpore, Tollygunge, Behala and Metiabruz can take this road and access Basanti Highway through the Prince Anwar Shah Road connector instead of taking the route via Science City once this 3.5 kilometre road is executed.

There is a road going up to a reputed educational institution to the Prince Anwar Shah Road Extension till Chowbaga and this will be extended by this new road, linking to the Basanti Highway as per reports. The Basanti Highway is billed as the gateway of the State to the Sundarbans. A Cognizant campus is located at Bantala which is a fast growing IT hotspot and this can also be accessed via the Basanti Highway. The KMC is also planning to widen the Jibanananda Setu at the Prince Anwar Shah Road connector.

The bridge going over the railway tracks which links Sealdah to several other areas in South 24 Parganas will also be widened once the feasibility study has been conducted. It will now be easier to travel to the Basanti Highway from South Kolkata in case a second span is developed for the bridge. It goes without saying that these infrastructural developments will boost real estate development along the connector to the Basanti Highway and adjoining areas.
