Better abolish this institution, we don&#8217;t mind that\u2026 high time that all the States should revisit and rethink even constituting this authority,\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Bench said while hearing an appeal against a Himachal Pradesh High Court order staying a State notification to shift the RERA office to Dharamshala.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The court said regulatory authorities would be better abolished if they failed to safeguard homebuyers, for whom they were created.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe people for whom this institution was created\u2026 are completely depressed, disgusted and disappointed. None of them is getting any effective relief,\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Bench remarked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The apex court\u2019s criticism is not new. Last year, while hearing petitions seeking directions to financial institutions not to charge pre-EMIs or full EMIs from homebuyers, it had termed RERA authorities \u201crehabilitation centres for former bureaucrats who have frustrated the entire scheme of the Act.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act of 2016 took effect on May 1, 2017, to empower homebuyers to assert their rights and obtain remedies for their grievances.
