Kothrud is one of the few Pune localities that can say its nearest metro station is not just nearby but already running trains, several times an hour, every single day.<\/span><\/p>\n

That wasn’t true a few years ago. Kothrud spent decades depending on Paud Road, Karve Road, and a fairly reliable but slow network of PMPML buses to get anywhere. The Aqua Line changed that in March 2022, and it’s since grown into one of the busiest stretches of Pune Metro. Three stations already sit inside Kothrud, and that alone puts it ahead of most of Pune’s western suburbs. Two more are approved to extend the line further into the locality, though there’s no firm construction timeline for either yet.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Vanaz Metro Station: The One Everyone Means<\/b><\/h3>\n

Getting to Vanaz from most of Kothrud is a short walk or an even shorter auto ride. It sits close enough to Paud Road that a lot of residents just walk over rather than book a cab.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Anand Nagar and Paud Phata: The Other Two<\/b><\/h3>\n

Anand Nagar sits a little further down the line in Rambaug Colony, and Paud Phata (it went by Ideal Colony until it was renamed in December 2025) covers Sankalp Society and the stretch around it. Together with Vanaz, these three stations mean most of Kothrud is within a 10 to 15 minute walk or a very short auto ride of a working metro platform. That’s not something many Pune localities can claim yet.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Aqua Line itself runs the full 14.66 km between Vanaz and Ramwadi, passing through Deccan Gymkhana, Civil Court (where it connects to the Purple Line), and PMC Bhavan along the way. Civil Court is the interchange to know, since it’s what turns a Kothrud commute into a ride toward Shivajinagar, PCMC, and the northern half of the city without ever getting into traffic.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. What’s Coming: The Extension Toward Chandni Chowk<\/b><\/h3>\n

Two more stations, Kothrud Bus Depot and Chandni Chowk, have been approved as an extension of the Aqua Line further west. Neither is under active construction yet, and Maha-Metro hasn’t put out a firm timeline, so it’s fair to treat this as an “eventually” rather than a “soon.” Once it happens, it would push metro access even closer to the Kothrud-Warje border, an area that currently leans entirely on road traffic.<\/span><\/p>\n
