Extension brings metro closer to Salt Lake Sector V<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Beleghata\u2013IT Center section is the next phase of the Orange Line, which already operates between Kavi Subhash in New Garia and Beleghata. Once opened, the extension will provide a direct metro link between southern Kolkata and the IT Center in <\/span>Salt Lake Sector V<\/span><\/a>. The interchange with the Green Line will connect Orange Line passengers to the Salt Lake\u2013Howrah corridor.<\/span><\/p>\n

The remaining Orange Line sections toward New Town and the airport are separate phases and are not included in the Beleghata\u2013IT Center opening.<\/span><\/p>\n

Housing demand could rise near connected areas<\/b><\/h2>\n

Sector V\u2019s concentration of offices provides the extension with a clear commuter link. Easier access may support rental demand among people working in the IT district, including those in residential areas connected to Sector V by the metro and feeder roads.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beleghata<\/span><\/a> and parts of the EM Bypass corridor may also benefit from improved access to the wider network. <\/span>New Garia<\/span><\/a>, already served by the Orange Line, could benefit from a direct connection to Sector V. The effect is likely to vary by neighborhood: homes within easy reach of stations and local transport may be better positioned than properties near the alignment but without easy access.<\/span><\/p>\n

A direct connection to Sector V may make some residential locations more convenient for office commuters, but it is too early to attribute housing or price growth to the extension. Last-mile transport, station access, public services, and sustained employment demand will shape the longer-term effect.<\/span><\/p>\n

For now, the confirmed development is the extension of metro connectivity to IT Center, pending completion of the trial and safety approvals.
