Which Is the Tallest Building in India Right Now?<\/h2>\n

There isn’t one simple answer, and each version matters for a different reason.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tallest completed and occupied: <\/b>For a completed and occupied tallest building in India, Lokhandwala Minerva ,Mumbai <\/span>is currently the clearest answer\u00a0 – 301 metres, 78 floors, ready since 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tallest structure standing, though still closed: <\/b>Palais Royale, Mumbai – 320 metres. It topped out in 2018, but court cases and pending interior work have kept it shut. Opening is expected in December 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tallest under construction: <\/b>Ocean Towers 1 and 2, Mumbai – 331 metres planned.<\/span><\/p>\n

For a completed and occupied building, Lokhandwala Minerva is currently the clearest answer. Palais Royale is taller, but it has not yet opened to residents.<\/span><\/p>\n

The national ranking above is Mumbai-heavy simply because that’s where India’s tallest buildings actually stand. Here’s the record-holder in each of the other major markets.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mumbai: <\/b>Palais Royale (320 m) is the tallest structure standing, and Lokhandwala Minerva (301 m) is the tallest one open to residents. Mumbai dominates the national rankings because its limited land, high property values, and years of vertical redevelopment have encouraged the city to build upward.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kolkata: <\/b>The 42, at about 260 metres and 65 floors, is the tallest building outside Mumbai, completed in 2018. Its height is measured above sea level, so the exact ground-to-roof figure is a little different.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hyderabad: <\/b>SAS Crown in Kokapet, at 235.3 metres, is Hyderabad’s tallest, completed in 2024. The city already has more buildings above 100 metres than anywhere else in South India.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bengaluru: <\/b>CNTC Presidential Tower in Yeshwantpur is Bengaluru’s tallest at 161 metres, completed in 2023. The city only crossed the 150-metre mark for the first time in 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why Does Mumbai Have So Many of India’s Tallest Buildings?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Mumbai is surrounded by water on three sides, so builders don’t have much room to expand outward. Land here is among the priciest in Asia, which makes tall towers a smart use of small plots. Many of these buildings also came up under slum redevelopment schemes, where builders get extra height in exchange for rehousing people who once lived on that land.
