With 6.5 million square feet of flooring, the Pentagon, the world\u2019s largest office building, plays a vital role in both national and international terms. Of this, roughly 3.7 million square feet, equivalent to 85 acres, are occupied by office spaces, in-house commercial and retail facilities, religious spaces, and medical amenities, all designed to cater to the Pentagon’s workforce. For the uninitiated, this massive structure holds 23,000 personnel from both the military and civilian sectors. Along with these 23,000 personnel, it also houses about 3,000 independent contractors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The structural design of the Pentagon building comprises five stories above ground level and two subterranean floors. Each floor embodies five concentric rings, labelled from A to E, cumulatively accounting for approximately 17.5 miles of passageways and corridors. This architectural marvel saw its initial construction on September 11, 1941. Not many know, but a chilling coincidence occurred 60 years later, when on the same date, an act of terrorism shook the world while causing significant damage to the building’s west side, as the hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into it, tragically ending 189 lives.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Interesting Fact: This quintessentially five-sided edifice also holds a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. Not just that, it is also celebrated as a National Historic Landmark, and guided tours are also conducted for civilians.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
