About Grant Road, Mumbai

Grant Road is a posh suburban town named after the Governor of Bombay (1835 and 1839). It was formally called the Maulana Shaukat Ali Road. Located in South Bombay, Grant Road is majorly populated by Muslims, Jains,  Irani and Parsi Zoroastrians, deeply rooted in the locality. 

Grant Road falls in the Western local line followed by localities like Churchgate, Marine Lines, Charni Road and Mumbai Central. You can easily access Cama Baug Fire Temple, Nana Chowk, Lamington Road and the Royal Opera House from the Grant Road Railway Station. Grant Road was known for an array of theatres up until 2004. Novelty Cinema, Super Cinema, Jamuna, Apsara, Minerva, New Roshan Talkies, Krishna Cinema, Royal Talkies, Nishat Cinema, Shalimar Cinema, Imperial Cinema and Alfred Theatre. 

Apart from the various theatres, the area also has some of the best bakeries in town like B’Merwan and Persian Bakery.  One of the oldest saree stores called The Sheetal Store is located on Grant Road.

Grant Road also has some of the best schools, colleges, hospitals and places of entertainment in the area. The famous Chowpatty Beach is just a few minutes away from Grant Road. Well-known schools like Edubridge International School,  Shalom International School Junior College and Wilson College. Hospitals like  Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.
