Thakurli is a major residential zone lying beyond Thane and offers several premium and affordable housing options to residents. Demand for property in Thakurli has gone up by leaps and bounds and there are several ready to move projects in the area. 1 and 2 BHK housing units are predominantly available in the area while leading developers like Happy Home are hugely active here. Thakurli is a major suburb which is a part of the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation. Thakurli also has its own railway station on the Mumbai suburban railway network’s central line.
GIP Railway first setup a coal based power station called the Chola Power Station in the year 1932 here. This produced electric power needed for running suburban electric railway networks. Various fox hunting clubs were also established in the zone by British army officers while a school for children was established by the wives of these officers. This is now called the Mahila Samiti English High School and is currently run by the wives of the officers of the electrical department of the Central Railway. The power plant also got a new lease of life with the 700 megawatt gas based project.
The Central Railways is the main land owner in this area and there are vast tracts still to be developed in the locality. The Thane Creek extends towards Bhiwandi and Kalyan through the western part of Thakurli. However, the eastern part of the locality is the primary residential zone and also houses several schools and colleges. Thakurli station is the halt after Dombivali and before Kalyan on the Main Line from CST. Thakurli has a cosmopolitan environment and the MIDC at Dombivali extends hugely into the area. The KDMC Sports Complex is a prominent recreational and sports facility near the locality. Thakurli will also get the country’s first elevated train terminus for long distance trains. This will be elevated to enable departing passengers to board from the upper deck while arriving passengers can alight at ground level. Two platforms have already been planned and the overall number could increase to five as per officials helming the project.
Property prices have gone up by approximately 7.55% in the area as per Q3 2015 and average prices stand at around INR 5, 500 per sq. ft. here for the same period. Popular projects include Happy Home Sarvodaya Leela and many others.
