Adyar is touted as one of the prime and well known locality in neighbourhood of Chennai, next to nearby localities such as Besant Nagar, Guindy, Kotturpuram, and Thiruvanmiyur. The location is highly preferred by IT professionals due to its proximity to Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), an IT Corridor. The starting point of OMR at Madhya Kailash is located at the junction of Adyar and Guindy. It is also close to East Coast Road (ECR) that is considered as the entertainment corridor of Chennai. Adyar is known for its greenery, wide roads and good connectivity by MRTS (Mass Rapid Transport System) via three stations – Indira Nagar, Kasturbai Nagar and Thiruvanmiyur. The rapid urbanisation of city and increase in pollution over the time have affected the flora and fauna of the Adyar creek. In the recent times, the government has taken initiatives (like the Adyar Eco Park) to preserve and restore the ecosystem along the Adyar creek.
