Chandni Chowk, also known as Moonlight Square, is a locality in New Central. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built Chandni Chowk Delhi in the 17th century. It is one of the oldest and most vibrant markets in Delhi. The older Chandni Chowk was shaped like a half-moon and was built in front of Municipal Townhall. A small channel was made from River Yamuna to reflect moonlight that passed through the middle of the market with shops on both sides.


Chandni Chowk is also very close to the Old Delhi Railway station and has the famous Red Fort located at the Eastern end. It is one of India s largest wholesale markets with a speciality in authentic delicacies and clothing. There are residential localities on both sides of Chandni Chowk. The popular nearby localities are Baratooti, Civil Lines, Malka Ganj, Roshanara Road and Indraprastha, Fatehpuri Chowk, Jama Masjid Chowk Jawahar Nagar.
