One of the oldest temples in Malad is the Lord Hanuman Temple of Marvani Village, which is over a century old and was built by the Purav family of Malvani Village in the early 19th century. Harba Devi Temple, a 12th century temple, is located on Madh Island. According to the temple's historical evidence and documents, it was also attacked during World War II.
In front of Aksa Beach lies the Malad Fort, also known as Madh Fort. The fort overlooks the Arabian Sea and was conquered by the Maratha Empire in 1739. INS Hamla is a logistics and training facility for the Indian Navy which is also located in Malad.
Malad houses approximately 9.46 lakh people. An additional 1 lakh people visit the location daily. The area majorly has a rich and upper-middle-class Marathi population. Malad comes under the P-North ward of Mumbai. According to the 2011 Census, it is the city's most populous ward. Metro Line 2A (DN Nagar-Dahisar West), which is under construction, is supposed to facilitate commuting to Mumbai's airports and beyond.
