Kakkanad, Kochi

A new eight-storey super-specialty block with 842 beds and 16 operation theatres has been inaugurated at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kalamassery, Kochi. This upgrade to healthcare infrastructure, costing Rs 286.66 crore, aims to address the insufficiency of critical treatments and expand services, benefiting patients from Kochi and surrounding regions.

Infopark Kochi has proposed relocating the SilverLine semi-high-speed rail project's station from Phase 2 to Phase 3 to free up approximately 29 acres of land in Phase 2. This land is crucial for Infopark's expansion, accommodating over 100 companies awaiting land allocation. The proposed Phase 3 offers better integration with Kochi Metro, Water Metro, and an expressway, potentially improving transit.

Villas in Kochi are experiencing increased demand in 2025, driven by a post-pandemic preference for privacy and space. Areas like Kakkanad, Aluva, and Vyttila are seeing development of gated villa communities with modern amenities.

The Union Budget 2025 has allocated funds for Kochi's infrastructure development, including metro expansion to Kakkanad and InfoPark, and increased funding for port connectivity. A green urban development plan and solar-based public mobility trials are also part of the budget's focus on Kochi.
