If an NRI originally bought the property for repatriation purposes, they are permitted to sell it without the RBI approval. However, to sell the property, you need the RBIs authorisation if it was acquired on a non-repatriation basis. NRIs must also ensure they follow all laws and guidelines outlined in the Income Tax Act and pay all necessary taxes on the sale revenues.
