Experts Discuss 'Demagnetizing' Bengaluru to Manage Growth and Traffic

Experts at the India Today Karnataka Summit 2026 discussed strategies to manage Bengaluru's rapid growth, suggesting a need to 'demagnetize' the city by decentralizing development to surrounding areas and promoting WFH. They highlighted that the city's infrastructure, particularly roads and public transport, is struggling to keep pace with population growth.

Bengaluru to White-Top 450 km of Roads to Combat Potholes

Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd (B-SMILE) is developing a blueprint to white-top ( Cement plastering ) , an additional 450 kilometers of roads across the city at an estimated cost of Rs 30 billion. The project also includes improvements to footpaths, contributing to better urban infrastructure and commuter safety.

New International Cricket Stadium and Sports Complex to be Built in Anekal Taluk

Karnataka has launched work on a new international cricket stadium and integrated sports complex in Anekal taluk, near Bannerghatta National Park. The Rs 943-crore project, spread across 75 acres, will feature an 80,000-seat cricket stadium, making it India's second-largest. Bengaluru's residential property prices are projected to increase by up to 40% through 2027, driven by the expansion of the Namma Metro network. The operational Yellow Line and upcoming Pink Line are key catalysts, expected to generate 5-7 million sq. ft. of incremental office space demand in the coming two years.

The opening of the elevated section of Bengaluru's Pink Line metro has been delayed to May 2026 due to construction delays. The underground section is projected to be completed by September/December 2026. This delay impacts commuters in South Bengaluru, and the ongoing construction has led to poor road conditions with numerous potholes, especially on Bannerghatta Road. BMRCL blames other civic agencies for not restoring the road properly after digging.
