MMRDA Plans Two New Ring Roads to Ease Mumbai Traffic

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning two additional ring routes, expanding its proposed network from seven to nine. These new corridors will cover approximately 307 km and will connect existing roads and planned projects across Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai.

New Road Link Approved to Enhance Mumbai Connectivity

The Maharashtra government has approved a ₹1,722 crore road link project aimed at connecting the Versova-Bandra Sea Link with the Mumbai Coastal Road. This infrastructure development is expected to significantly improve traffic flow, reduce commuting times across the city.

Goregaon-Mulund Link Road Project Receives ₹2,650 Crore in BMC Budget

The Goregaon-Mulund Link Road project has been allocated ₹2,650 crore in the BMC's FY26-27 budget. This crucial east-west connectivity project, which involves the construction of a 4.7 km twin-tube tunnel under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, aims to ease traffic congestion on the Ghodbunder Road.

During Q1'2026, average property prices for Bajrang CHS Kandivali moved from ₹ 20,950/sqft to ₹ 22,200/sqft, reflecting a 5.97% rise.

Mumbai Local Trains Face Cancellations for Infrastructure Upgrade

Western Railway is undertaking essential infrastructure upgrades between Kandivali and Borivali from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, leading to the daily cancellation of over 80 local trains. This includes work on tracks and crossovers, impacting suburban, passenger, and express train services. Nightly mega blocks are also in effect, causing further service disruptions.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is leasing out 68,166 square feet of retail and commercial space across stations on Metro Lines 2A and 7 to generate non-fare revenue for the financial viability of Mumbai's metro services.
