Panvel-Karjat Corridor Nears Completion, MRVC Accelerates Mumbai Rail Upgrades

Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has made significant progress on suburban rail projects. The Panvel-Karjat New Suburban Corridor is nearing completion, The Virar-Dahanu Road Quadrupling Project is progressing fast. Signalling and telecommunication works have been commissioned at Kelve Road station.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Station at Boisar to be Ready by December 2027

Mumbai Metro Expansion Gains Momentum with New Corridors to Boost Regional Connectivity

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is advancing plans for Metro Line 13 (Mira-Bhayandar to Virar) and Metro Line 14 (Kanjurmarg to Badlapur). Metro Line 13's detailed project plan has been submitted for approval, while preparatory work for Line 14 is underway.

Virar Station Platforms Upgraded to Accommodate 15-Coach Trains

Western Railway and Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation have completed significant capacity augmentation works at Virar station. Platforms 3A and 4A have been widened and extended to handle 15-coach local trains, replacing the previous 12-coach capacity. A new platform, 5A, has also been constructed. This upgrade is expected to boost carrying capacity and improve commuter experience on the western corridor.

Mumbai-Surat Suburban Rail Services Under Consideration

Authorities are considering introducing suburban rail services between Mumbai and Surat, potentially utilizing Namo Bharat rapid transit trains and upgraded MEMU trains. Dedicated suburban platforms are being prepared at Surat railway station to facilitate these services, which could connect Surat with Valsad, Dahanu, and Virar, and possibly extend to Ahmedabad.

Uttan–Virar Sea Link Phase I Approved, Promising Major Transport Upgrade

The Maharashtra government has approved Phase I of the Uttan–Virar Sea Link, a project with a total length of 55.12 km, comprising a 24.35-km bridge and 30.77 km of connector roads, that will anchor a larger coastal corridor connecting South Mumbai to Vasai, Virar, and Vadhavan Port. This Rs 58,754 crore project, to be implemented by MMRDA, is expected to significantly reduce travel times.

The Rs 3,578 crore Virar–Dahanu Road quadrupling rail corridor has achieved significant progress, with 86% of earthwork complete. The project, forming a crucial part of Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) Phase III, is expected to transform suburban rail connectivity.

Western Railway announced a night block between Vasai Road and Virar on the intervening night of September 20-21 from 00:15 hrs to 04:15 hrs for track, signalling, and overhead maintenance. Slow line trains will operate on fast lines during this period.
