Basheer Unnisa Begum, the daughter of the sixth Nizam (Mahbub Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VI), was given this land as part of her bridal dowry when she wed the second Amir of Paigah Shams ul Umra Amir e Kabir. Accordingly, the area was given the name Begumpet in her honour.
