Pune Metro Expansion Gets Green Light for Peripheral Routes

The Pune Municipal Corporation's general body has approved proposals for extending the Pune Metro to peripheral areas. New routes from Khadakwasla to Donaje, Katraj to Khed Shivapur, Katraj to Undri, and Wagholi to Lonikand have been sanctioned. These extensions are expected to improve connectivity to Sinhagad Fort, the proposed outer ring road, and newly developing areas.

Pune Civic Body Allocates ₹740 Crore to Boost Traffic Infrastructure

PMC has allocated ₹740 crore in its 2026-27 budget to enhance traffic infrastructure, including road repairs, flyover-bridge projects. .A separate allocation of Rs 100 crore has been made for the development of the Katraj-Kondhwa road. Also, Ghorpadi railway overbridge, Aga Khan riverbridge and Suncity-Karvenagar riverbridge are planned to be completed before monsoon.

Pune is preparing for a significant transportation upgrade with the launch of the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar metro line in March 2026. The Union Budget has also earmarked ₹517 crore for the Pune Metro project, supporting its Phase-II expansion.Tunnelling for the Swargate to Katraj underground stretch will commence soon, and the Pimpri-Nigdi elevated line is targeted for completion next year.

The Pune Ring Road project is progressing, with the western section targeted for completion by 2026 and the eastern section by 2028. This initiative aims to significantly decongest traffic in Pune and its surrounding areas, enabling faster and smoother travel.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar reviewed ongoing infrastructure works in Warje, Katraj, Dhayari, and Shivane, focusing on road upgrades, drainage systems, and park development. He directed authorities to expedite pending works and address quality issues to improve connectivity and urban amenities in these growing suburbs. The projects are part of broader plans to decongest main arterial roads.
