The Kolkata Metro Rail upgrade, receiving ₹671.72 crore, will involve installing new traction substations and upgrading power supply systems, aiming to enable train operations at 2.5-minute intervals.

The new bridge will ease traffic by avoiding bottlenecks, while the Metro line will improve connectivity across eastern Kolkata, impact including areas like Chingrighata and New Garia.

Kolkata Metro Line 6 Construction Nears Completion, Trial Runs Expected Soon

The East-West Metro Corridor in Kolkata is nearing its final stages of construction, with officials indicating that trial runs will commence shortly after completion. The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inspection will follow, and commercial services will begin only after receiving a go-ahead from the CRS. This development is expected to significantly improve connectivity and reduce travel time.

East Kolkata is preparing for the inauguration of several infrastructure projects. The renovated Debi Ghat in Dakshindari will reopen, and a second bailey bridge over the Kestopur Canal will connect AA Block to Dakshindari, easing traffic congestion. The Airport-New Garia Metro (Orange Line) aims to complete the Chingrighata crossing section by February 15, 2026, with the entire line expected to open later in the year. The Yellow Line extension to New Barrackpore is targeted for August 2026.

Kolkata MDA is set to construct 5,616 urban roads across five districts , marking the inclusion of urban road construction in the scheme for the first time ,with South 24-Parganas receiving the highest number of roads costing 8487 crores rs. Additionally, infrastructure upgrades are planned for East Kolkata, including the renovated Debi Ghat immersion site in Dakshindari, A second bailey bridge over the Kestopur Canal will connect AA Block to Dakshindari.

Bengal Silicon Valley Project Advances with New Construction Updates

Bengal Silicon Valley, Kolkata's IT and innovation hub, is seeing progress with new construction updates across multiple tech park sites. Infrastructure development, including structural progress on buildings, road networks, and underground utilities, is underway. New Town is experiencing infrastructure upgrades, including a 10-lane major arterial road expansion, an international bus terminus, and proposed vehicular and pedestrian underpasses. The Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub in New Town's Action Area II is a significant initiative by the Government of West Bengal to foster the technology sector. NKDA will upgrade and redevelop the roads in the central business district (CBD) area of New Town. The authorities have estimated Rs 1.9 crore for the CBD area and Rs 67 lakh for the stretches of street 335.
