Panvel-Karjat Corridor Nears Completion, MRVC Accelerates Mumbai Rail Upgrades

Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has made significant progress on suburban rail projects. The Panvel-Karjat New Suburban Corridor is nearing completion, The Virar-Dahanu Road Quadrupling Project is progressing fast. Signalling and telecommunication works have been commissioned at Kelve Road station.

A total of 8 residential transactions has been registered so far for Star Halima Heritage, amounting to ₹ 1 Cr till August 2026.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Station at Boisar to be Ready by December 2027

CM announced that the Boisar railway station for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is slated for completion by December 2027. The project, which includes a station at Virar, is expected to boost economic development in the Palghar district & with a proposed extension of the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to this region,

MMRDA Presents Surplus Budget with Significant Allocation for Infrastructure

MMRDA has presented a surplus budget of ₹48,072 crore, with 87% allocated to infrastructure projects, including roads, public transport, and urban development. A notable provision of ₹4,000 crore is earmarked for the development of Mumbai 3.0 New Town, aiming for planned urban expansion.

BMC Budget Includes ₹6,475 Crore for Water Security Projects

The BMC's FY26-27 budget includes a substantial allocation of ₹6,475 crore for water security initiatives. This funding is designated for projects such as the Manori desalination plant (₹500 crore) and the Gargai project (₹437.51 crore), aimed at augmenting the city's water supply capacity.

Virar Station Platforms Upgraded to Accommodate 15-Coach Trains

Western Railway and Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation have completed significant capacity augmentation works at Virar station. Platforms 3A and 4A have been widened and extended to handle 15-coach local trains, replacing the previous 12-coach capacity. A new platform, 5A, has also been constructed. This upgrade is expected to boost carrying capacity and improve commuter experience on the western corridor.

External Works has reached 50%, Internal finishing stands at 50%, MEP Services including lift and staircases, are now 55% done.

A total of 44 out of 170 launched units have been booked as of February 2026, including 15% of SHOP(4 out of 26 units), 27% of 1 BHK(27 out of 101 units), 29% of 2 BHK(9 out of 31 units), 33% of 1 RK(4 out of 12 units).

Western Railway announced a night block between Vasai Road and Virar on the intervening night of September 20-21 from 00:15 hrs to 04:15 hrs for track, signalling, and overhead maintenance. Slow line trains will operate on fast lines during this period.
