Kodambakkam, Chennai Reviews

I resided in Kodambakkam briefly and discovered it was a rather pleasant home to visit Chennai. Thanks to the film industry, the community was lively, safe, and really had its own distinctive energy. The connection was great; frequently I got around swiftly utilizing the Kodambakkam Railway Station, which was very near. Being close to important medical facilities like Medway Hospitals made me feel safe; I valued that. The convenient Nexus Forum Vijaya Mall and neighboring retail choices were my favorite aspect. Although the area provided significant advantages in location and services, the dense population caused traffic congestion and noise that certainly needed to be reduced, particularly on Arcot Road. Future inhabitants should absolutely give this vibrant, well-linked neighborhood top recommendations.

As a tenant I really enjoy staying in Kodambakkam. With all you require right here, it seems like the genuine center of Chennai. The comfort of my daily life comes from this culturally rich and secure neighborhood. The amazing access to transportation, especially having the Vadapalani Metro on the Green Line so near, which makes travelling everywhere simple, is what I love most. Of course, the Kollywood buzz and hospitals, famous eateries, and excellent schools abound in this area. I find it quite suitable for a well-connected existence. The major spheres that would raise the general livingability and charm of the area, though, are enhancing green public areas and bettering garbage management.

Kodambakkam is still a great pick mostly because of its central position and strong connectivity, fueled by its own railway station and close proximity to Vadapalani Metro. Clients love the established social structure, which features several multi-specialty hospitals and respected colleges like Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College. Making it a secure investment, this combination of accessibility and amenity richness guarantees constant rental yield and stability of property value. Although the area is very accessible, the high density of people adds to parking issues that calls for more dedicated public parking options for smooth living. It's a great, easy center with all you need just steps away.

Positive: Actually, I really like being Kodambakkam's tenant. It really seems Chennai's powerful core. The best aspect is the linking. Here is the Kodambakkam Railway Station, and the Vadapalani Metro is so close. This makes traveling anywhere quickly and easily. Good hospitals, schools, and those legendary Kollywood studios provide the area with a distinctive, energetic environment, hence everything is within reach.

Negative

Negatives: Certainly the intense traffic congestion on the major thoroughfares at rush times causes noise pollution to rise and poses the most serious problem. Furthermore, pavements have to be regularly free of encroachments and parked cars. Better, clear pedestrian walkways would help to make this wonderful community absolutely perfect.

Positive: I chose Kodambakkam mainly because of its unbeatable central location and excellent connectivity, with both a railway station and the Vadapalani Metro on the Green Line nearby. There were high levels of access to essential services, including top schools such as Chhathrapathy Shivaji DAV, plus multiple hospitals like Medway. My favorite thing was the mix of local markets and famous places like Nexus Forum Vijaya Mall.

Negative

Negative: First was the significant noise pollution, probably because of the dense population, coupled with its proximity to film studios, which was quite disturbing at times. Second, the lack of ample green spaces or recreational facilities was a definite drawback for the residents in search of some open-air respite.

Positives: I am quite happy to stay Kodambakkam since there are big hospitals nearby, and the connectivity is great. Transport is made easy due to Kodambakkam Railway Station and the forthcoming Metro Phase II stations. My favorite is the blend of conventional movie culture and local markets.

Negative

Negatives: The constant Metro Phase II building and tunneling work, which is much of a source of noise pollution as well as inevitable traffic diversions. This building problem should be addressed on priority, as it renders the place excessively dusty and unpassable. During rain, the drainage system is not able to work properly, and water logging on primary inner roads is a recurring issue I don't like at all.

I personally love staying in Kodambakkam. In my opinion, it’s a costly but extremely posh locality in Chennai. Of course, there are the other perks, like easy connectivity, top-class social infrastructure, and the visible filmy connection. It is the hub of the Tamil movie industry or Kollywood, while all essential services are readily accessible. I also appreciate the fact that you will find several hosuign options here, although the property costs have gone up exponentially in the last few years. One of the issues here is the increasing costs of almost everything as compared to many other localities.

Kodambakkam is a top place to stay in Chennai. So, I appreciate how the metro and bus stations are nearby, while there are many reputed schools, hospitals, and colleges in the vicinity. Of course, one thing that makes it a good place to stay is the community vibe that is visible here. People are very helpful, and celebrate many festivals together. So, from that POV, it’s a nice place to raise children and settle down in Chennai. Of course, no area can be completely perfect; one of the issues in recent times is the huge traffic congestion. That’s what needs to be fixed.

Positives: Kodambakkam famous because it is like the heart of the city Chennai. It has a special charm due to the Kollywood film atmosphere. I have the railway station and big roads such as Arcot Road here, so traveling is very easy. And there are good schools and hospitals here around me, so I am secure and all that I need is here within reach.

Negative

Negatives: My greatest hassle is the congestion and noise. Traffic here is perpetual, and the inner roads that are too narrow get choked during rush hours. Occasionally, the evening noise caused by film studio operations is disturbing. I worry about the shortage of green areas.

Kodambakkam is a great place to live in Chennai. I love the vibe of the place, with its suburban railway, wide roads, and proximity to the posher Nungambakkam zone. Of course, the main attraction of the place is the presence of the Kollywood industry. It’s the heartbeat of the area, with several studios and other film companies situated here. Everything else is just within my fingertips, be it eateries, schools, markets, parks, and all the other essentials for families. The only aspect worth mentioning is that property rates are slightly expensive, considering what you get. Also, the traffic congestion can be solved for a smoother experience.

I personally find Kodambakkam to be a very accepting and cosmopolitan area. The suburban railway network and major roads are also nearby, along with Nungambakkam, Anna Nagar, and other well-developed neighborhoods. The Kollywood film industry is headquartered here, and you’ll discover many fascinating studios as well. Of course, social amenities-wise, everything you want is within a short distance, from schools and markets to hospitals, parks, and more. Property rates are high, but I feel that there is a certain sense of exclusivity that comes from staying here. Also, there are crowds and traffic jams, but the overall experience is pretty nice. A fun fact is that A.R. Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory is also situated here.

Positives: I find myself being creative when I am staying in Kodambakkam and I must say the area suits me more and more. It is located close to Nungambakkam and Vadapalani and feels highly central. The post-production facilities and film studios provide the area with a special buzz. I travel using the Kodambakkam railway station and a lot of buses. Tree lined roads and tiny parks provide me with serenity.

Negative

Negatives: I do find three things which could be better. Traffic and parking become problematic during rush hour. Certain roads deteriorate badly and waterlogging occurs after a heavy downpour. A couple of thin market lanes are also poorly lit at night. Despite that, I still suggest Kodambakkam because of its central culture and community. I really love to live here every day.

Kodambakkam and Kollywood go hand in hand. Being a huge movie lover, this is the place where I’ve grown up, and I love staying even when I’ve started working, got married, had kids, and so on. I want to pass on this legacy of staying in such a culturally-rich locality to my children, hoping that they will also appreciate the place. A.V.M. Studios, so many other film companies- this area is a living and breathing cinematic history in itself. Of course, from practical considerations, everything else is pretty well-developed. There is the Phase 2 line being developed for the metro as well. Once done, it will boost the locality. The only issue is flooding in the monsoons.

I reside and sell houses in Kodambakkam, and like its innovative Kollywood vibe. Movie studios and production units line the streets, so professionals and artists have available work and rentals remain consistent. Kodambakkam railway station and several bus routes provide convenient city access, and future Metro Phase II and Vadapalani links will enhance convenience. Retail outlets, schools and old-time eateries meet everyday requirements. Prices are mid-to-premium due to centrality and consistent demand from media and surrounding business clusters. I suggest Kodambakkam for customers looking for a central location and cultural activities. Two areas that need to be worked on are chronic monsoon waterlogging and drainage, and heavy traffic with parking congestion in central roads. Local civic action and enhanced planning will correct problems.

I quite like the experience of staying in central Chennai. Kodambakkam is one area that has a lot of history and filmy connections (suits me, since I’m a film buff). The MTC bus network and railway station are my connectivity lifelines at present, while I am hopeful about the upcoming Metro Phase 2 line, which will pass through here. One more thing that is unique about the character of the area is its status as the home of the Kollywood industry. One of the industry’s oldest film studios, namely A.V.M. Studios, was set up here. Social amenities are top-notch here, although the place remains crowded, with heavy traffic volumes and pollution. There are some worries about monsoon flooding as well.

I adore the fact that my flat in Kodambakkam places me in the very center of everything; the hum of the film industry sets this place abuzz! The connectivity is top-notch here; I can walk to the Kodambakkam Railway Station, and the Vadapalani Metro isn't far, so commuting is easy. It's cheap relative to the more upscale neighbours, but we also have high business potential and large hospitals and schools. We have excellent road access and the region is always congested, which is very reassuring. The only one big highlight for potential infrastructure enhancement that is greatly in need is additional committed recreational green areas for families within the concentrated urban construction.

Kodambakkam used to fascinate me with its historic and culturally rich vibe. It is centrally situated and has a good transport network through the suburban railway network, MTC bus services, and more. The upcoming metro station is a major connectivity development on the Yellow Line, and it will make Poonamallee Bypass more accessible. One of the best parts of living in the neighbourhood is the diverse restaurants here, including Midnight Masala, Arabian Kebab Centre, and the Saravana Bhavan. Nexus Vijaya Mall is also nearby, while the Tamil Film Industry connection is quite visible here. You will find several studios and entertainment hubs in the vicinity.

Negative

One of the problems in this neighbourhood is that there is a lot of noise and traffic congestion, while the sewage system needs improvement. Waterlogging is also a problem, while crowding is another issue here.

Positives: I've been renting in Kodambakkam and It's a great central location that I highly recommend. Transport is great with the Railway Station and Metro availability make my commute to neighboring easy. Big hospitals, schools, and the Nexus Forum Mall within walking distance. The vibrant, mixed use environment, with the Kollywood studios right here, keeps things lively and very convenient.

Negative

Negatives: Massive traffic congestion forms the day's grind, especially on Arcot Road. The locality has a severe shortage of dedicated and large open green recreational spaces for citizens. The roads and drainage require significant, persistent improvement for better management of the high-density population in the area. In point of fact, solving these problems would really fine-tune this locality.

Positives: We are actually right in the middle of Chennai's film industry, Kollywood! The connectivity in the area is perfect with the Kodambakkam Railway Station just around the corner and the Vadapalani Metro linking us all over the city. Everything is at our doorstep, be it upscale shopping at Forum Vijaya Mall or good healthcare at Medway Hospitals.

Negative

Negatives: Yet, there are some major issues that clip this utopian life and need to be improved at once, there is persistent, incessant noise pollution from the local movie production centers. The city urgently needs to create more well-planned green areas and recreations and public parking for homeowners still remains unorganized and lacking, something civic authorities need to correct immediately.

Positives: I stayed at Kodambakkam a few years back, and it was an experience. The locality is renowned for film studios. I loved the great connectivity through the Vadapalani Metro, bus stops, and Kodambakkam Railway Station. Shopping and eating out were never a problem with malls such as Nexus Forum Vijaya and restaurants nearby. Schools and hospitals within walking distance made life easy.

Negative

Negatives: Traffic was daily, pollution was high, peace was disrupted by noise from movie shoots, green areas felt scarce. The cost of living was slightly high, and some roads required maintenance for their infrastructures. I wish traffic, pollution, green areas, noise control, road maintenance, and parking improve in the near future.

It is extremely convenient and vibrant to live in Kodambakkam, Chennai. I like the combination of residential serenity and the hustle and bustle of the Kollywood cinema industry atmosphere. The location is well-connected to Kodambakkam Railway Station, Vadapalani Metro, and arterial roads such as Arcot and 100 Feet Road. Fatima Matriculation and Loyola Matriculation schools and hospitals like JV and Medway are also nearby, making life convenient. Shopping at Nexus Forum Vijaya Mall or local bazaars and eating at Saravana Bhavan provides comfort. Improvement could be made in traffic regulation during rush hours and increasing green parks for recreation. All in all, Kodambakkam is a dynamic, well networked place I highly suggest.

Positives: Kodambakkam area is characteristically different. It's where Kollywood stays alive, so multiplexes, Sun TV, and film studios keep life happening. Schools, hospitals, and malls are present here, so everyday chores aren't a problem at all. Connectivity is seamless with Vadapalani Metro, bus stops, and Kodambakkam Railway Station in the vicinity. Restaurants and shopping facilities contribute to a hassle-free lifestyle. I love the cultural feel and mix of work and play here.

Negative

Negatives: High density of population, Kodambakkam is crowded, narrow roads, particularly during rush hours, noise from recording studios, fewer open spaces, and marginally higher cost of living could be difficult. Hard to locate large flats at reasonable price.

Positives: I stay in Kodambakkam and I am happy to call it home. Arcot Road, Dr. Ambedkar Road, Vadapalani Metro Station, Kodambakkam Railway Station are all in close vicinity. Good schools and hospitals are within close proximity like Loyola Matriculation, Medway, Vijaya etc. There are lots of shops and small bazaars nearby, and essentials for daily living are all within walking distances.

Negative

Negatives: Irregular water supply is common, and occasionally the water carries a bad smell, which concerns me particularly during summer. Heavy rains cause waterlogging, and the drain fixes are slow to execute. A couple of roads and streets are broken or under long pending repairs such as Sivan Koil streets, making walking or driving hazardous and inconvenient.

Positives: As a tenant in Kodambakkam, life has been energetic. I love the mix of home life with the Kollywood activity. I feel it provides the location with such a special vibe. We have great connectivity with the Kodambakkam Railway Station and the Vadapalani Metro Station within our reach, and the location is self-sufficient with quality amenities such as Medway Hospitals and quality schools. This location really feels like the cultural center of Chennai!

Negative

Negatives: But the local infrastructure works slightly hard with the heavy population pressure. The top worry for dwellers is the hefty noise pollution from commercial zones and film studios. There is also a considerable absence of exclusive green areas and parks where one can unwind. Finally, the living costs here are quite high in contrast to other areas in Chennai.

Positives: My experience in this lovely area was great. It is brimming with the authentic culture and vitality of Kollywood. It was literally on my doorstep, imparting a special character to the place. I particularly liked the trouble-free public transport, with Kodambakkam Railway Station and Vadapalani Metro Station facilitating easy commutes across the city. The neighbourhood was really self-contained, having great institutions like Meenakshi College and good multi-speciality hospitals within easy reach. Positives: Having a flat in this good locality has been one of my better decisions. The place has just the right combination of old Chennai life and modern convenience. I like how well connected it is to T. Nagar, Vadapalani, and Nungambakkam, and how traveling to any corner of the city becomes so convenient. The locality has fine schools, temples, markets, and hospitals within reach, and the railway station provides convenient connections to main areas. It is secure and vibrant, particularly with welcoming neighbours and tree-lined avenues. Evening strolls around Trustpuram are my favourite. If the road conditions and drainage are slightly improved, Kodambakkam would rank as one of the most comfortable localities in Chennai.

Positives: I've owned here for decades, and frankly, keeping this property in Kodambakkam has been a sound decision. It's a good investment because it is so centrally located. I love how easily I can hop on the city train from the Kodambakkam Railway Station or catch the Vadapalani Metro, making city travel really easy. And being near the Kollywood centre just brings an extra, lively zest to our everyday life.

Negative

Negatives: But I swear, at times, I regret buying it when I encounter the outside world. My daily commute along Arcot Road is simply a mess due to the intolerable traffic jam. Plus, there's perpetual noise pollution due to all the commercial activity. What really gives me the jitters is the clear absence of exclusive public green areas for my kids to play.

Positives: I am in the midst of everything here in Kodambakkam. It is just so alive in Kodambakkam, which is such a vibrant area of Chennai! I completely love the atmosphere; being the centre of Kollywood means that there's always energy and there are countless shopping and eating opportunities. The one thing that really makes this area convenient for a renter like myself is the proximity to the train station. All I need, from excellent hospitals to decent colleges, is at my doorstep.

Negative

Negatives: The non-stop, energetic activity does have a few drawbacks, though. On occasion, the noise from the movie studio side or late-night commercial activity is really disturbing. Also, I would really prefer the area to have more respectable green parks, as the high population density makes the few that do exist feel really crowded.

Positives: One rainy season, I had been staying in Kodambakkam for a good number of years, and I adored its film-town vibe and central position. I relished easy accessibility to studios (Kollywood), close-by malls and restaurants, good schools and hospitals, and the local railway station and emerging metro connectivity made commuting easy.

Negative

Negatives: Nevertheless, life there was beset with issues. I encountered routine waterlogging and clogged drains during the monsoon, weak stormwater infrastructure, ageing civic upkeep with clogged drains, and the loss of peaceful green nooks as development increased. Despite that, I left with appreciation for pleasant neighbours, movie-star sightings, and lively street food; those memories lingered long.

Postives: My wife and I are property owners close to Arcot Road for years. To be frank, the neighbourhood cannot be beaten. Kodambakkam is literally the transport nerve centre of central Chennai; having the suburban railway station and metro connectivity within reach ensures commuting never causes anxiety. Also, the locality is lively, always full of activity because it's close to the film industry.

Negative

Negatives: But as a resident myself for so long, I have witnessed the infrastructure battle. First, many of the inner residential roads are too narrow and in disrepair, causing us to go around huge potholes too often. Second, shop and vendor encroachments into the sidewalk space are a humongous issue. And lastly, the never-ending metro construction has increased rainwater stagnation in many of the low-lying areas.

I mostly love staying in Kodambakkam. This area is mostly peaceful, and the bus connections are good enough. Arcot Road is where you will find the main terminal, and it is also a key hub for the entire neighbourhood. All the daily shops and stores are situated very near the locality, while you will be amazed to understand that it is also a hotspot for the movie industry. So, the filmy vibe is everywhere, be it the studios, auditions, film posters, and whatnot! It’s like living in a locality with a very innovative atmosphere.

Negative

The only thing that needs improvement is the waterlogging, since the drains are clogged most of the time. I also wish the work were faster on the Chennai Phase 2 metro network.

Kodambakkam is one place where you will get the flavor of the Old times of Chennai. There are local stalls, the community people are very warm and friendly, and you will find the best local markets to buy your daily stuff. In fact, it's one place that is home to so many Kollywood studios, and that will give you a very filmy type of feeling. Of course, the necessary amenities and other basic infrastructure are both present here.

Negative

In terms of what can be improved, I can say that the metro line work needs to be done quickly. Yes, Phase 2 is happening, but it should be done quickly to improve the connectivity. That’s one reason I moved out, since I don’t like waiting for things, and the commute through GST Road is a lot to take.

Positives: I did live in Kodambakkam for a brief period immediately after college, and quite frankly, the sheer accessibility of the place was a life-saver. The highlight had to be the excellent connectivity; having the Kodambakkam Railway Station at the doorstep, along with the Vadapalani Metro a stone's throw away, made commuting throughout Chennai a piece of cake. Being situated in the heart of "Kollywood" also felt absolutely energetic. Negatives: But geez, the hype was there. The first thing I realised was that there was constant noise pollution, particularly in the midst of the busy film studios, which was something I could not really get used to. Second, the roads were clogged with traffic every time. Lastly, considering such a heavily populated central district, I wished there were more readily accessible green areas or parks.

Positives: I have just shifted to Kodambakkam, and the vibe here is amazing! It's like the centre of Chennai with a perfect combination of old-timeliness and business. The most wonderful thing is the incredible transport facility, having the railway station, bus stop, and Kodambakkam bridge so near makes travelling anywhere a breeze. I also adore the enormous range of local markets and cinema halls nearby. Negatives: But the jam is tiresome. The traffic on the main road, particularly around the bridge, is completely blocked throughout the day. Parking my scooter is a nightmare; there are no organised places. Moreover, as most buildings are old, the electricity tends to trip quite often, and getting good, clean piped water is surprisingly difficult. I am glad to be a resident of this area.

Positives: Waterlogging is a pain in the monsoon season. As a renter here, I'd say Kodambakkam is quite good. The connectivity is the biggest advantage. You have lots of shops and restaurants around, and whatever you require is easily accessible on foot or in your car. If you work at the IT hubs, it's a good place to stay too, given the proximity of work. Negatives: The worst part I deal with on a daily basis is the traffic, which is a real headache and makes a ton of noise. The non-stop metro building on the major roads also makes travel more difficult. It's also a highly populated area, so don't anticipate much in the way of parks or green areas to unwind in.

Positives: I used to wake up one day to find film units placing their equipment in front of my window. I enjoyed the Film City culture in the morning. I had nearby good schools, hospitals and malls, and places like Sun TV studios and small theatres made the weekends exciting. I enjoyed the various restaurants and the reliable bus connectivity. Negatives: I experienced genuine irritations too. I considered traffic and congestion thick on main roads, and noise from studios and bustling markets depleted me at times. Positives: I purchased my home in Kodambakkam, and I continue to smile every morning at the movie-studio atmosphere here. I get nice schools, hospitals and neighbourhood market within walking distance, and the Kodambakkam railway station along with major roads enable easy access to Nungambakkam, T Nagar and other centers. I have observed consistent demand and prices here remain in the mid ₹10–13k per sqft bracket, so it's a sure bet to own. Positives: It has been many years now that I settled here. Also, a lot of good things have happened here. The most impressive is how central the location is. Everything you require is here with you. The basic necessities such as schools, hospitals, and all the renowned cinema studios. The transport connectivity is excellent, I can simply board a train from the station here or take the metro and reach anywhere in the city. Negatives: On the other hand, it is a little difficult to stay here at times. The area is highly congested, and it is very noisy with all the commercial commotion. Plus, during rains, some areas here have a slight waterlogging issue.

Positives: I am a renter in this area, and I have liked Kodambakkam as a wonderful location for me and my wife. I can walk everywhere, and the railway station is a big advantage for me. The metro is so handy. I like the fact that this area is always bustling with residential as well as business activity, which I appreciate. There are so many good restaurants and shopping areas. Negatives: I must say this locality has some negative sides too. The area is too congested at times. There is too much activity, and it becomes noisy. During the rain, part of the streets become a mess.

Positives: I love this neighborhood so much. It's a hub of Kollywood with studios, and Sun TV is just around the corner. Kodambakkam railway station is roughly 550 m, and Vadapalani metro is 1.7 km. Also, Chennai airport is 12.2 km. Arcot Road and 100-Feet Road connect to Forum Vijaya Mall, schools and hospitals. Negatives: Streets are congested and traffic is dense. Shooting for films and metro construction cause noise and dust. Parking is congested, and some areas experience water stagnation during the monsoon.

Positives: Kodambakkam is a good area. Kollywood's hub with film studios, neighborhood railway station, convenient bus connections, and proximity to Vadapalani metro are definite plus points. Additionally, good schools, hospitals along Arcot/100-Feet Road are pluses. Negatives: It's traffic-heavy, noisy due to studios, pollution-prone, and densely packed are cons. The green area is less, and living here is expensive.

Positives: I enjoy staying in this lively hub. With both the railway station and metro conveniently located, it is very easy to move around. All the amenities that are needed, such as hospitals and schools, are also within close proximity. Negatives: The traffic is always a problem due to how congested it is. You are exposed to noise and air pollution, and worse still, there's much the drainage system can improve on.
