Pune is set to benefit from the Union Budget 2026-27's focus on developing infrastructure in cities with over 5 lakh population. The allocation of Rs 5,000 crore per City Economic Region over five years, along with proposed high-speed rail corridors including one connecting Mumbai and Pune.

Pune Metro's elevated Line 3, spanning 23.203 km and connecting Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, will begin operations in phases starting June 15, 2026. The first phase will cover 12 stations from the Hinjewadi side, with the remaining stations expected to be operational by October.

Despite a 17% drop in property registrations in January 2026, Pune's real estate market saw only a 5% decline in stamp duty revenue. This indicates a shift towards higher-value property deals. The market is showing a rebound from December 2025, suggesting sustained demand in the mid and premium segments.

The Pune Municipal Corporation's general body has approved proposals for extending the Pune Metro to peripheral areas. New routes from Khadakwasla to Donaje, Katraj to Khed Shivapur, Katraj to Undri, and Wagholi to Lonikand have been sanctioned. These extensions are expected to improve connectivity to Sinhagad Fort, the proposed outer ring road, and newly developing areas.

PMC is moving forward with plans to construct a new bridge parallel to the existing Rajaram Bridge to alleviate traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road. This project aims to improve connectivity between Sinhagad Road and Karvenagar , DP Road, reducing daily traffic bottlenecks and enhancing commuter experience.

The construction of the 53.4 km Pune-Shirur six-lane elevated highway is slated to commence by mid-2026. This project, to be built under the DBFOT model, aims to ease congestion and improve road conditions on the Pune-Shirur route, ultimately connecting to the Samruddhi Highway. Minimal land acquisition is expected as the corridor will run alongside the existing highway.

Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to place the responsibility of water supply for newly included areas and housing projects directly onto the developers. This move aims to ensure adequate water pressure and supply until the PMC can establish its own infrastructure, with developers required to provide guarantees.

CM Devendra Fadnavis announced that Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and the Pune Metropolitan region will soon have a nearly 200 km Metro network. This expansion aims to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in the city. Currently, about 33 km of the metro network is operational, & 55 km in construction phase ,with further additions planned.

Two key flyovers in East Pune, at Hadapsar Gadital and Magarpatta Chowk, are likely to be dismantled to facilitate a proposed 40-km multilevel flyover and Metro corridor along the Solapur Highway. This move is part of a larger plan to create an integrated elevated transport corridor to ease traffic congestion.
