Experts Discuss 'Demagnetizing' Bengaluru to Manage Growth and Traffic

Bengaluru to White-Top 450 km of Roads to Combat Potholes

Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd (B-SMILE) is developing a blueprint to white-top ( Cement plastering ) , an additional 450 kilometers of roads across the city at an estimated cost of Rs 30 billion. The project also includes improvements to footpaths, contributing to better urban infrastructure and commuter safety.

The high-density corridor (HDC) project on Kanakapura Road in South Bengaluru, aimed at creating a model urban corridor, is facing significant issues with patchy execution. Some stretches have intact footpaths and good carriageways, others suffer from broken, encroached, and garbage-filled footpaths, forcing pedestrians onto the road.

BDA Reclaims Encroached Land Across Bengaluru and Suburban Rail Link to Airport Gets Green Signal

BDA conducted demolition drives reclaiming encroached properties valued at over Rs 704.3 crore across South, North, and East Bengaluru, recovering more than 25 acres of land. These actions aim to free up land for public infrastructure and development projects. Indian Railways have agreed on a suburban rail link to the Airport (KIA). This project, part of the Majestic–Devanahalli corridor , includes an 8.5km airport spur with two stations and a 3.5km underground line within the KIA complex.

South Bengaluru Roads to Undergo White-Topping and Footpath Upgrades

Eleven major roads in South Bengaluru, including areas like BTM Layout, Jayanagar, and Padmanabhanagar, will be white-topped with footpath upgrades at a cost of Rs 94.62 crore. This is part of a larger Rs 1,700 crore plan to revamp 500 km of city roads over three years to provide long-lasting, pothole-free surfaces. The project is expected to be completed within 11 months, potentially causing temporary traffic diversions.

Bengaluru's double-decker flyover near Silk Board Junction is nearing completion and is expected to open by December or early next year. The project aims to ease traffic congestion at the bottleneck.
