Reservations and Eligibility Conditions

Housing Scheme in Jammu & Kashmir under the Housing Board is available to all residents of the state. However, certain reservations and special status is granted to some of the selected categories of people by the Board. Here are some of the important pointers to glance at:

  • Any applicant wishing to own a residential unit in the state of Jammu & Kashmir must be a citizen of India and a resident of the place. 
  • The applicant must not hold any property and plot on lease and ownership basis which has been allotted by any governing body of the state in the province of Jammu & Kashmir.
  • An applicant applying for attaining residences must be at least 18 years of age.
  • He or she should be either a salaried employee or must own a business that gains him enough surplus to fund the EMIs against the loan provided for owning a property. 
  • Even though applications are accepted from more than a single member of the same family, the plot allotted to a single family will be only one. 
  • Applicants who have previously attained houses allotted by any of the Governing body is not entitled to attain another property under any other housing scheme of the Board or the Government as an organization funding the scheme. 
  • Special preferences are provided as reservations of housing units for applicants belonging to categories such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Physically Challenged, Other Backward Classes, Defence Personnel, War Widows, Ex-servicemen, and so on. 
  • The Board has the authority to further reserve housing units for people like Government officials and employees serving the Board, journalists, and so on.
