The Uttar Pradesh administration has endorsed a major support initiative for women property purchasers. To empower women, the UP Cabinet has decided to offer a 1% discount on stamp duty for properties priced up to Rs 1 crore. All as long as they are purchased in a woman’s name.
During a Cabinet meeting at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a meeting earlier this week where the decision was made.
As of now, the stamp duty exemption has been restricted to properties valued at a maximum of Rs 10 lakh, providing a maximum discount of Rs 10,000. The latest ruling allows this exemption to apply to properties worth up to Rs 1 crore, significantly increasing its scope and effect.
The decision by the UP government matches the Union Budget 2024, which also suggested lowering the stamp duty on property deeds for women. Officials indicated that the state’s initiative is expected to bring about a considerable rise in property registrations for women.

Serving as the executive president and business head at Square Yards, Vikas Tomar, endorsed the decision, indicating it would specifically benefit the mid-segment market: “The Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to reduce stamp duty by 1% for women on property purchases up to Rs 1 crore is a positive step and will likely boost sentiment among women aspiring to own a home… With this added incentive, we’re likely to see greater interest in the mid-range category across cities like Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad, with more buyers moving forward with purchases under women’s ownership.”
