Central Govt Employees Welfare Housing Organisation CGEWHO is a registered body under the Societies Registration Act 1860. It aims to promote, control, and coordinate the development of houses for central government employees across India. The organization operates on a non-profit, no-loss basis. CGEWHO has completed housing projects in cities like Chennai, Navi Mumbai, Panchkula, Kolkata, Noida, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Kochi, Hyderabad, and Pune. These projects consist of a total of 8,386 dwelling units. Currently, there are ongoing housing schemes in Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Panchkula, and Noida, with over 3,745 dwelling units under construction. CGEWHO functions under the supervision of the General Body, Governing Council, Executive Committee, and Chief Executive Officer. The organization follows a philosophy of outsourcing various tasks to external parties, with firms of architects providing professional services. Land acquisition is a crucial step in the planning process, with demands surveys conducted to determine the housing needs of central government employees. The projects are executed using either the conventional method or the turnkey contract method, depending on land availability. Allotments are made based on a computerized draw, and construction is carried out by appointed agencies to ensure adherence to schedules and high-quality standards. Once construction is complete, possession of dwelling units is handed over to the beneficiaries, and maintenance responsibilities are transferred to an Apartment Owners Association formed by the beneficiaries.
