Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway Gets New Interchange Tender

The Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway is set for another round of infrastructure development, with NHAI inviting bids for a new interchange near Sardar Patel Ring Road. The authority has also revised the schedule for a street lighting control system tender covering the expressway. Both developments add to the road infrastructure planned around Dholera Special Investment Region.

Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids to build a new interchange connecting the Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway with Sardar Patel Ring Road in Ahmedabad. The tender was published on September 8, 2026. Contractors can submit bids until October 22, while the bids are scheduled to open on October 23.

The interchange will connect the expressway with Ahmedabad’s existing road network. NHAI is using the Engineering, Procurement and Construction model for the work. The tender marks a new step in the project’s development, but it does not confirm that a contractor has been selected or construction has begun.

Another update concerns street lighting along the corridor. NHAI has revised the schedule for a tender covering a centralized control and monitoring system for street lighting on the expressway and a separate section of National Highway 47. The latest listed bid deadline for that work is October 29, 2026.

NHAI Plans Interchange at Sardar Patel Ring Road

The proposed interchange will be built where the Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway meets Sardar Patel Ring Road. It is intended to provide a direct connection between the expressway and Ahmedabad’s road network.

The tender follows a standard procurement process. NHAI must evaluate the bids and select a contractor before work can proceed under the contract. The published schedule identifies October 22 as the submission deadline and October 23 as the planned opening date. Any change to these dates should be checked against the latest official tender record.

The estimated interchange cost of Rs 124.40 crore appears in third-party tender listings. The amount should be checked against the full tender document before being used as a confirmed project estimate.

Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway Route and Length

The Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway is a 109.019 km greenfield road corridor developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. It passes through Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar districts in Gujarat and connects the Sardar Patel Ring Road area near Ahmedabad with Adhelai village in Bhavnagar district.

The four-lane, access-controlled highway provides road connectivity to Dholera Special Investment Region and the existing coastal highway network. Its main purpose is to shorten road journeys between Ahmedabad and Dholera and improve access to the developing industrial area.

The route is also relevant to freight movement and business travel. However, the benefits for individual businesses will depend on factors such as industrial development, road access, and the readiness of supporting infrastructure.

Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway Cost and Status

The expressway has been reported at different project costs in government announcements. One announcement dated February 27, 2026, put the cost at Rs 5,800 crore, while a separate announcement on March 30 cited more than Rs 5,100 crore. The available announcements do not explain the difference, so the final project cost cannot be established from these figures alone.

The expressway was inaugurated on March 31, 2026. An earlier government update in February said the road had been opened to the public for testing while final operational readiness was being assessed. That statement describes the position at the time and does not confirm the current operating conditions in October.

A later official update would be needed to establish whether any restrictions remain. The inauguration date should not, by itself, be treated as proof of unrestricted public access.

Street Lighting Tender Gets New Deadline

NHAI’s street lighting tender covers the installation, testing, and commissioning of a centralized control and monitoring system. The contract also includes operation and maintenance for five years.

The work covers the Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway from kilometer 0.000 to kilometer 109.019. It also includes a separate section of National Highway 47 between Ahmedabad and Godhra. The tender was published on September 8, 2026.

The original schedule listed October 8 as the bid submission deadline and October 9 as the opening date. The latest procurement record now shows October 29 for bid submission and October 30 for opening. A technical bid corrigendum was published on October 9.

This change is important for readers because the earlier dates are no longer the current schedule. The next update to watch is the outcome of the revised bidding process. The tender does not establish how much street lighting work has been completed on the ground.

Dholera SIR Connectivity Gains Momentum

The Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway forms part of the wider transport network planned around Dholera Special Investment Region. The region is being developed for industrial and commercial activity, including manufacturing and logistics.

One major investment associated with Dholera is Tata Electronics’ semiconductor fabrication project. Better road access can help workers, suppliers, and businesses travel to the industrial area. However, the expressway alone does not determine when a factory will begin commercial production or how much investment the region will attract.

Dholera International Airport is another major infrastructure project planned for the region. The expressway is intended to support road access to the airport, but airport construction and operational readiness follow a separate schedule. Any new airport milestone should be confirmed through an official aviation authority update.

The Union Cabinet also approved the Ahmedabad Sarkhej to Dholera semi-high-speed railway project in May 2026. It has an estimated cost of Rs 20,667 crore, with completion planned for 2030 to 2031. The proposed railway is intended to connect Ahmedabad with Dholera SIR, the planned airport, and the Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex.

The railway is a separate project. Its approval provides wider context for Dholera’s transport development but does not change the status of the expressway interchange tender.

Interchange and Lighting Bids Set for October

The immediate milestone for the Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway is the interchange tender. NHAI has scheduled the bid opening for October 23, 2026. The next confirmed development will be the tender outcome, followed by an official contract award and construction schedule if the project moves ahead.

The revised street lighting tender is another date to track, with bids scheduled to open on October 30. An award notice would confirm whether the contract has moved beyond the procurement stage.

For the wider Dholera region, progress on industrial facilities, the airport and the proposed railway will shape how the transport network develops. The expressway provides the road link, while these supporting projects continue on their own timelines.
