About New Town, Kolkata

New Town is a planned locality situated in North-East Kolkata. It's part of the North 24 Parganas district and is also a part of the New Town Kolkata Development Authority. It's among the many satellite cities of Kolkata and is located 11km away from the main city. It's also been designated a Solar City and a Smart Green City by the Government of India. 

This is a newly developed region and is still seeing a lot of development with time. It's divided into three zones, namely Action I, II, and III, and consists of a mix of residential, commercial, educational, and corporate complexes. It's located in close proximity to other localities such as Salt Lake, Lake Town, Rajarhat, and Kestopur, among others. 

New Town is also a major upcoming employment hub in Kolkata, along with Salt Lake Town V. Some of the major commercial parks in these regions include Unitech Infospace, Candor Techspace, TCS - Gitanjali Park, and DLF It Park 1 and 2. 

Adding to this is the well-developed social infrastructure of the town, which consists of educational institutions, retail spaces, and hospitals. Some of the notable educational institutions here include the Saltlake Shiksha Niketan, The New Town School, and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Government College.

There are various places you can visit in New Town, Kolkata. The first is Eco Park, which is an amusement park spread across an area of 194 hectares. The park offers lots of green spaces along with a water body spread across 42 hectares. One can indulge in activities such as water zorbing, kayaking, duo cycling, high-speed boating, rifle shooting, archery, and roller skating. 

Another place of interest is the Mother's Wax Museum, where one can see wax statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Pranab Mukherjee, BR Ambedkar, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and various other notable personalities across various fields. 

Another important attraction is the Biswa Bangla Gate, an architectural marvel suspended in mid-air that offers fine dining options, matchless views, and much more.
