EM Bypass, Kolkata

Metro construction for the Orange Line at Chingrighata has begun, leading to traffic control measures on the EM Bypass. The first phase of traffic curbs starts on May 15 and will last for 60 hours, affecting all northbound traffic.

Indian Railways has sanctioned projects worth ₹895.30 crore to enhance the power systems of Kolkata Metro and strengthen critical bridge infrastructure in West Bengal. The Kolkata Metro Rail upgrade, receiving ₹671.72 crore, will involve installing new traction substations and upgrading power supply systems, aiming to enable train operations at 2.5-minute intervals.

The West Bengal Real Estate Appellate Tribunal has ruled that real estate promoters must obtain homebuyers' consent before altering common areas within a project. This decision reinforces consumer protection by ensuring that changes to shared spaces and amenities require agreement from buyers or their association, preventing unilateral modifications by developers

Godrej Properties is set to launch new residential projects in growing areas of Kolkata, including New Alipore, Joka, and Sodepur, in 2026. These projects are designed with modern amenities, green spaces, and proximity to new Metro lines. Key projects include Godrej Blue in New Alipore, Elevate Godrej Se7en in Joka, and the plotted township Godrej Zen Estate in Diamond harbour.

Construction work for the Chingrighata Metro project in Kolkata is stalled and unlikely to resume in March due to the need for traffic diversions and clearance from Kolkata Police. Metro officials are in talks with the police to find a suitable window for construction to recommence, which is crucial for alleviating traffic pressure on the EM Bypass.

New launch projects like Srijan Town Square in New Town and Urban Vista in Rajarhat are now available in Kolkata East. Srijan Town Square offers 3, 4, and 5 BHK apartments, while Urban Vista provides 2 and 3 BHK options. In Salt Lake, new projects such as Laguna Bay in EM Bypass and Merlin The Fourth in Salt Lake are also available. Laguna Bay offers 2 and 3 BHK apartments, while Merlin The Fourth provides 3 and 4 BHK options.

The Kolkata Metropolitan Area experienced a surge in residential property registrations in 2025, reaching 62,328, a 25% increase from the previous year and the highest annual total since 2020. December 2025 alone saw 5,571 registrations, with a growing preference for mid-sized homes (501-1000 sq ft), accounting for 59% of registrations, up from 43% the prior year.

To ease traffic on the Ultadanga flyover, a new 46-meter Bailey bridge is being constructed to connect Dakshindari with Salt Lake's AA Block, providing an alternative route from VIP Road to Sector V and the EM Bypass.The two-way bridge, costing an estimated Rs 6 crore , is expected completion by the year end. The Public Works Department has proposed a crossover on VIP Road for Salt Lake-bound vehicles heading towards the airport.
