Maharashtra Dy C M Eknath Shinde has announced a series of ambitious infrastructure and tourism projects for Thane, including India's tallest viewing tower at 260 meters along Thane Creek,. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has successfully completed the technical inspection and trial run of Phase 1 for the Thane-Wadala Metro Line 4, covering Gaimukh to Vijay Garden, including four stations: Gaimukh, Govaniwada, Kasarvadavli, and Vijay Garden.Once fully operational, the 35.2-km corridor with 32 stations is expected to serve over a million daily commuters.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have flagged off trial runs for Mumbai Metro Line 4, also known as the Green Line, which aims to improve connectivity between Wadala and Kasarvadavali in Thane. Trial runs were conducted on a 10-kilometer stretch from Cadbury Junction to Kasarvadavali and a 4.4-km priority section between Gaimukh and Vijay Garden. Phase 1 of the Thane-Wadala route is expected to open in stages by December 2025 and April 2026, with four stations ready by December 2025. The entire Metro Line 4 and 4A corridor will span 58 kilometers and is designed to operate eight-coach trains, benefiting an estimated 21 lakh commuters daily and reducing travel time by 50-75%.

Trial runs for the Wadala–Thane–Kasarvadavali Metro-4 corridor and its extension to Gaimukh (Metro-4A) will begin on the Cadbury Junction–Gaimukh stretch, with passenger operations expected by the end of December. The 10.5 km stretch from Cadbury Junction to Gaimukh is nearing completion and is expected to open by the end of 2025. Once operational, Metro Line 4 will provide connectivity between the eastern and western suburbs of Mumbai and Thane.
