Navi Mumbai Metro Line 8 Alignment Finalized to Link Airports

The alignment for Navi Mumbai Metro Line 8 has been finalized, aiming to create a direct metro connection between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The metro will pass through Vashi, Sanpada and Juinagar along the Sion–Panvel Highway.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) has submitted the proposal for Metro Line 11, a 17.4 km underground corridor from Anik Depot in Sion to the Gateway of India, to the central Govt. Estimated to cost ₹23,487 crore, the line aims to improve connectivity between the eastern suburbs and South Mumbai ,passing through congested areas like Byculla, Nagpada, and Crawford Market.

The Maharashtra government plans to introduce a new policy to grant occupation certificates (OCs) to over 25,000 buildings in Mumbai's suburbs that have been operating without formal certification. The policy aims to rectify technical or administrative lapses made during construction and will be implemented transparently through an online system starting October 2. Housing societies are encouraged to apply for OCs, with no penalties for applications within the first six months, though premiums will be required for additional FSI usage.
