Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that the state government is prioritizing the resolution of traffic congestion in Thane through key infrastructure projects like the Coastal Road and elevated corridors. These projects are progressing steadily and are expected to significantly improve traffic flow.

The Public Works Department (PWD) and Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) will undertake repairs on a 500-meter stretch of the Gaimukh Ghat road from December 12 to 14, 2025. Heavy vehicles will be diverted to alternative routes like the Bhiwandi–Wada route, Mumbai–Nashik Expressway, and Kasheli–Kalher roads.

The Ghodbunder Highway in Thane is undergoing upgrades and is expected to be completed by January 2026, promising significant traffic relief for commuters. The project includes merging service lanes, road concretization, resurfacing at the Gaimukh Ghat section, widening of service roads, utility relocation, and major repairs to improve traffic flow and safety.

Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has directed officials to complete Metro Line 9 by December 15, 2025, and Metro Line 4 by December 31, 2025. This aims to provide significant relief to commuters in Thane and Mira-Bhayandar. Additionally, the 10.32 km service road from Kapurbawdi to Gaimukh will be concretized and merged with the main road by December 31, 2025.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) conducted the technical inspection and trial run of Metro Line 4 and 4A's priority section, marking progress towards launching Thane's first metro line. The Gaimukh to Cadbury Junction stretch (Phase-1) is expected to be fully operational by April 2026, with four stations ready for use by December 2025.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has successfully completed the technical inspection and trial run of Phase 1 for the Thane-Wadala Metro Line 4, covering Gaimukh to Vijay Garden, including four stations: Gaimukh, Govaniwada, Kasarvadavli, and Vijay Garden.Once fully operational, the 35.2-km corridor with 32 stations is expected to serve over a million daily commuters.

Mumbai Metro's expansion includes eight lines under construction, aiming to create an integrated transport network. Line 3 (Aqua Line) is nearing completion, with its final stretch from Worli to Cuffe Parade expected to open on September 30, 2025. Metro Lines 4 and 4A will significantly ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between Mumbai and Thane, linking Wadala, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Kasarvadavali, and Gaimukh.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have flagged off trial runs for Mumbai Metro Line 4, also known as the Green Line, which aims to improve connectivity between Wadala and Kasarvadavali in Thane. Trial runs were conducted on a 10-kilometer stretch from Cadbury Junction to Kasarvadavali and a 4.4-km priority section between Gaimukh and Vijay Garden. Phase 1 of the Thane-Wadala route is expected to open in stages by December 2025 and April 2026, with four stations ready by December 2025. The entire Metro Line 4 and 4A corridor will span 58 kilometers and is designed to operate eight-coach trains, benefiting an estimated 21 lakh commuters daily and reducing travel time by 50-75%.

Trial runs for the Wadala–Thane–Kasarvadavali Metro-4 corridor and its extension to Gaimukh (Metro-4A) will begin on the Cadbury Junction–Gaimukh stretch, with passenger operations expected by the end of December. The 10.5 km stretch from Cadbury Junction to Gaimukh is nearing completion and is expected to open by the end of 2025. Once operational, Metro Line 4 will provide connectivity between the eastern and western suburbs of Mumbai and Thane.
