The Maharashtra government has approved the ₹17,036-crore Bhayander-Ghodbunder connectivity project, which includes a 15.44 km corridor with an elevated creek bridge and twin tunnels. The project will be executed on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, with 60% funding from a private concessionaire.

The decision, announced by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, prioritizes citizen welfare and environmental protection, with plans of an alternative site to keep the metro project on schedule.

Farmers whose land will be acquired for the Thane Coastal Road project are demanding fair compensation and recognition of their cultivation rights. Thane is also experiencing severe traffic congestion due to a mismatch between the number of vehicles and the available road infrastructure, exacerbated by narrow streets, inadequate parking, and ongoing infrastructure projects.
