About Wakad, Pune

Wakad is a developing area situated in Pune, Maharashtra and is close to the famous Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park at Hinjewadi. The pin code of Wakad is 411057 and the postal head office is Infotech Park Hinjawadi. Wakad is surrounded by Maval Taluka,Talegaon Dabhade Taluka, Chinchwad and Velhe. Marathi is the local language in this locality, people also speak and understand English and Hindi too.

Wakad was once mostly known for its four-day Mhatoba Utsav, a traditional festival dating back to over 450 years honouring Mhatoba the village deity. It’s hard to imagine that once, Wakad was mainly farmland where crops like groundnuts and sugarcane flourished. Today Wakad is unrecognisable. The changes swept up the neighbouring village of Hinjewadi as well as Wakad in its wake as well.The locality has seen an influx of many IT industries which is also a reason for property investments.

What’s Great / What’s Not Great about Wakad

The locality is in close proximity to Mumbai Highway. It is well connected to various other localities of Pune. It has a planned metro route. It is also located very close to Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi. However, there is a problem of traffic congestion in Wakad. People of Wakad also complain of inadequate water supply in their homes.

Wakad, along with other smaller areas like Pimple Saudagar, began to develop as a result of the meteoric demand for economical housing from the influx of migrants coming in for employment in IT and manufacturing companies. Located in the scenic west of Pune, Wakad offers these affordable alternatives to the now well-developed and upscale areas like Baner and Aundh.

It is well-connected through Mumbai Highway (NH-48), Wakad-Bhosari BRTS Road and Aundh-Ravet BRTS Road. Buses operated by Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) connect Wakad with different parts of Pune. Pune Junction Railway Station (17 km) and Pune International Airport (23 km) can be reached in an hour. Also, the 23.3 km planned metro Line 3 (Hinjewadi Phase III - Civil Court) would further improve the physical infrastructure of Baner and boost connectivity in the region.

Wakad is situated on the north-western outskirts of Pune. Placed alongside the Mumbai highway, the locality is closely surrounded by areas like Pimple Saudagar, Thergaon, Tathawade, Hinjewadi, Balewadi and Baner. I recently relocated to Wakad, and I am actually rather quite ecstatic. Wakad seems to be a good fit on the western edge of Pune; I get to Hinjewadi rapidly. The Wakad Chowk metro and BMTC buses shorten my commute. I see that some lanes still stink after torrential rains even though the sewage drains are mostly clear. The abundance of stores, coffee shops, and stores close by astounded me most. For me, compared to central Pune, the perfect scenario would be green open areas and more subdued roadways. Nearby, I find Aditya Birla Memorial and Lifepoint hospitals as well as EuroSchool, a school nearby. Being near business centers also helps me. More evening parking capacity, I believe, would benefit people like me.

I am pleased with my investment here. Living in Wakad with my family, I love mornings. Wakad connects via Paud Road, the Mumbai-Pune highway, and the Hinjewadi IT corridor, though it is not in the heart of Pune. Travel will be quicker thanks to the future Pune Metro Line 3 and Wakad Chowk station. Buses and autos are often seen in my area. One short walk away are daily necessities, stores, and medical facilities. Green spaces and designs around my block mark the neighbourhood. I feel safe with the usual police patrols. Balewadi High Street is my favourite place to hang out. My child attends EuroSchool, and the neighbouring hospital, Lifepoint Multispeciality, is where I visit.
