The long-awaited Barapullah Phase-III is set to be inaugurated on September 29, opening a signal-free east-south Delhi link designed to make daily travel faster and more convenient for commuters. The 3.5-km elevated corridor will connect Mayur Vihar Phase I with Sarai Kale Khan and link to the existing Barapullah corridor toward AIIMS and South Delhi. The route is expected to cut the Mayur Vihar-East Delhi to AIIMS journey from about 35-40 minutes to around 15 minutes. This project is expected to benefit Mayur Vihar, Patparganj, Trilokpuri, Sarai Kale Khan, Jangpura, and AIIMS, while reducing overall travel time to Noida.
How Barapullah Phase III will improve connectivity
The corridor will create a direct, largely signal-free movement between Mayur Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan, avoiding several surface-level bottlenecks. The project will reduce travel time between Noida, East Delhi and AIIMS to about 15 minutes. This will also improve access between Noida and South Delhi by providing a faster route through Mayur Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan.
At the Sarai Kale Khan end, the corridor will connect with the existing Barapullah stretch, extending the signal-free route towards JLN Stadium, INA and Aurobindo Marg. The wider network will help commuters reach Ring Road, DND Flyway and NH-24 more efficiently and also ease pressure on NH-9 approaches to Sarai Kale Khan.
Commuters from Noida and Ghaziabad will have a more direct route to South Delhi. It will also improve access to the Delhi-Noida Direct Flyway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway through the wider road network. The corridor will connect with the multi-modal transport hub at Sarai Kale Khan, which includes railway, ISBT, DMRC, and NCRTC facilities.
Localities that will be impacted
Mayur Vihar, a key residential area in East Delhi, offers planned housing and social infrastructure. The opening of Barapullah Phase III enhances its appeal, especially for those needing access to East Delhi, the wider capital, and Noida for work and education. Nearby Patparganj and Trilokpuri benefit from improved access to employment and healthcare, with established infrastructure making them mature markets. Sarai Kale Khan is a major transport and redevelopment zone, hosting Nizamuddin railway station, the interstate bus terminal, RRTS, and metro, increasing activity and facilities. In NCR, residents of Noida sectors (15, 16, 18) and Ghaziabad areas like Indirapuram, Vasundhara, and Kaushambi gain from faster routes to South Delhi, with better links to Faridabad and Sohna via DND Flyway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
