Bhopal Smart City

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship SCM (Smart Cities Mission), Bhopal was chosen as one of the first 20 Indian cities (Phase 1) to be developed as a smart city. For three years in a row—2017, 2018 and 2019—Bhopal was named India’s cleanest state capital city.

Bhopal city has integrated a SPV (special purpose vehicle). Following which Bhopal Smart City Development Corporation Limited has designed, planned, implemented, and monitored the smart city projects in Bhopal. BSCDCL is a company embodied under the Indian Companies Act 2013, with the same shareholding from MPUDCL (Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Company Limited) on behalf of (BMC) Bhopal Municipal Corporation and Government of Madhya Pradesh (GoMP).

Overview of the Company: To plan, design, develop, execute, manage, maintain, operate, and monitor Smart City development projects for the city of Bhopal in compliance with the Smart City Mission of the government of India and state Government

Vision: Making Bhopal, a city of lakes, tradition, and heritage, a top location for smart, connected, and eco-friendly communities centred on education, research, entrepreneurship, and tourism.

Objective of Bhopal Smart City

The Indian Government’s Smart Cities Mission aims to make cities into thriving, sustainable economic hubs. One of the 20 lighthouse cities chosen in the first round of the competition is Bhopal, and it is intended to develop a replicable model that would serve as a beacon for other cities. Only Bhopal was chosen for its redevelopment model, which offers a wealth of opportunities for investments, the creation of new jobs, and the generation of revenue through land monetization with a strategic focus on transit-oriented development. Of the 20 cities chosen, 19 have made similar retrofitting proposals. With a twist, Bhopal is a lighthouse city.
