Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase 1 of the Noida International Airport in Jewar on March 28, 2026. Featuring a modern runway, cargo hub and MRO facility, the project is expected to ease congestion at Delhi’s airport and boost connectivity across the region.

Noida, March 28, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Noida International Airport, marking a significant milestone for India’s aviation and infrastructure sector. This launch is expected to alleviate congestion at Indira Gandhi International Airport and stimulate large-scale economic and real estate activity across Noida, Greater Noida and the broader National Capital Region (NCR).

During the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasised the airport as a key component of India’s infrastructure development, highlighting that such projects will enhance connectivity, attract investment and promote regional growth. The event was attended by senior officials from both central and state governments, industry stakeholders and aviation executives. The Prime Minister unveiled the terminal and reviewed key facilities, including the runway and cargo infrastructure.

When fully completed, the Noida International Airport will span more than 5,000 hectares, making it the largest airport in India by area and one of the largest in Asia.

Noida International Airport: Key highlights

Developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International, the project has seen an investment of approximately ₹11,200 crore in its first phase.

According to a Square Yards research report titled "Runway to Realty: How Noida International Airport is Reshaping Realty", the airport is part of a larger long-term infrastructure vision and is expected to enhance aviation capacity in the region significantly.

It features a 3,900-metre runway capable of handling large aircraft and is equipped with advanced navigation and lighting systems to support all-weather operations. Initial operations will focus on domestic flights, with a phased expansion planned to include international routes and round-the-clock services.

A significant highlight of the airport is its cargo infrastructure. It includes a multi-modal cargo hub with integrated logistics zones that can initially handle over 250,000 metric tonnes annually, with plans to expand this capacity significantly over time. Additionally, there is a dedicated 40-acre Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility.

Architecturally, the airport is inspired by the Braj region, incorporating elements such as ghats and havelis. It also aims for sustainability through energy-efficient systems and environmentally conscious design.

Real estate set for take-off

With the airport now operational, it is expected to accelerate airport-led development across the region. Areas along the Yamuna Expressway, particularly sectors 18 and 22, as well as township projects such as Gaur Yamuna City, are already seeing increased interest from investors.

According to reports, the region is witnessing a structural shift from a relatively subdued, end-user-driven market to a high-growth corridor driven by infrastructure development.

The report highlights that plotted developments have driven the initial phase of growth, while residential apartments are witnessing steady demand as the region becomes more livable. The market is gradually shifting toward integrated township developments that include plots, apartments and villas.

Industry experts believe that the airport will stimulate demand across residential, commercial and mixed-use segments as businesses and employment hubs begin to emerge.

Industrial and economic momentum

The airport's operations are expected to enhance the overall industrial ecosystem. Key projects currently under development include Film City, Fintech City, and Electronic City, all of which are expected to increase the demand for commercial and office space.

The Yamuna Expressway corridor is being developed as an integrated economic zone that will include various industrial and logistics clusters alongside residential areas. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is actively developing specialised zones, including a Medical Device Park and an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster, as well as multiple logistics hubs. Additionally, there is increasing investment momentum in sectors including semiconductors, solar equipment, auto components, and electronics manufacturing.

This integrated development model is expected to strengthen the connection between job creation and housing demand, thereby supporting long-term, sustainable growth in the region.

Connectivity to strengthen further

Connectivity to the airport is being enhanced through various infrastructure projects. The Yamuna Expressway already provides direct access to Noida and Greater Noida, further supported by the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and proposed connections to the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC).

Reports indicate that the region is benefitting from an evolving multimodal connectivity network. This network comprises expressways, rail corridors, and planned metro expansions, which are anticipated to enhance both passenger mobility and cargo movement.

Moreover, the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) and the Delhi-Kolkata railway line are anticipated to enhance cargo transportation. Future initiatives, such as the extension of the Noida Metro Aqua Line and the Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Rail, will further boost passenger connectivity.

The inauguration of the Noida International Airport signifies the start of an airport-led urbanisation model in the National Capital Region (NCR). This model is expected to drive the development of infrastructure, industry, and real estate in tandem, reshaping the region's long-term growth trajectory.
