HUDA has removed the Ambedkar statue located at Badshahpur Chowk, which was obstructing the completion of the final phase of the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), which was delayed for a long time. Once the SPR (which was planned as a major intra-city bypass linking Gurgaon-Faridabad Road in proximity to Ghata with the National Highway-8) is finished, it will lower the traffic congestion around Iffco Chowk and will boost connectivity of new sectors along with infusing new life into approximately 50 realty projects that are coming up along this road.

Currently, all traffic coming from Faridabad goes through the MG Road before venturing towards Iffco Chowk and this creates bottlenecks. Once the SPR gets finished, it will link Faridabad to the National Highway-8 through the Sohna-Gurgaon Road. It will also resolve connectivity issues of the new sectors 58-80 and will also link the Golf Course Road with the National Highway-8, lowering traffic congestion along the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway (NH-8) as well.

The SPR was almost completed by March, 2017 and only a tiny stretch remained incomplete on account of the delay related to the shifting of the statue. The statue was expected to be shifted to another plot in April, 2017 but this was delayed on account of several reasons. This move was vital for the SPR’s completion since this was obstructing the road’s alignment at a point where the Sohna Road cross the SPR near the Badshahpur Chowk and the elevated highway (around 5 km long) on the Sohna Road (Gurgaon-Alwar Highway) which covers the distance between the Badshahpur Village and Subhash Chowk.

According to Yashpal Yadav, the HUDA administrator, the shifting of the statue is completed and work only needs to be completed for a small portion of the road. This vital project will be completed swiftly according to him. Once it is completed, the authorities will request Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to visit Gurgaon and inaugurate the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). The new development has made real estate developers happy. The removal of this last obstacle will ensure swift completion of the SPR and the real estate market in Sectors 69-79 will be boosted hugely. SPR will link these sectors with the Golf Course Road, Faridabad and South Delhi and will cut down traveling time for commuters.

According to the Director at M3M Group, Pankaj Bansal, commercial and residential projects along the SPR will now witness faster development. According to the Director of the Elan Group, Ravish Kapoor, the SPR will fill up a major gap in connectivity for these new sectors and there will be relief from huge traffic jams along the Sohna Road and MG Road and NH-8 can be directly accessed now from Golf Course Road and Faridabad. Vehicles from Golf Course Road and Faridabad will be able to access the National Highway-8 close to Kherki-Daula without having to take the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and MG Road. This should cut down traveling time by around 25-30 minutes for those going from Faridabad and Golf Course Road to Manesar.
