Thane’s first metro services are expected to begin in December 2026, with the initial 10.5-km stretch connecting Gaimukh to Cadbury Junction. The corridor is part of Thane Metro Line 4, a 32.32-km elevated route between Wadala and Kasarvadavali, with the 2.88-km Metro Line 4A extending northward to Gaimukh. Together, the two corridors will have 32 stations and connect Thane with Mumbai’s eastern suburbs. The first phase is expected to ease congestion along Ghodbunder Road by offering passengers an alternative to road-based transport.

Thane Metro Line 4 connectivity and route advantages
Metro Line 4 will run through key residential and commercial areas along Ghodbunder Road before continuing toward Majiwada, Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, and Wadala. Its first phase will serve the Gaimukh, Kasarvadavali, and Cadbury Junction stretch, with stations planned at Vijay Garden, Dongripada, Tikuji-ni-Wadi, Manpada, Kapurbawdi, and Majiwada.
The immediate benefit will be an additional commuting option for residents who currently rely on buses, private vehicles, and auto-rickshaws to travel along Ghodbunder Road. The corridor is relevant to Thane West, where peak-hour congestion affects travel between residential developments and established commercial centers.
At Kapurbawdi, Metro Line 4 is planned to connect with Metro Line 5, which will link Thane with Bhiwandi and Kalyan. This interchange will extend the corridor’s benefits beyond Thane West into the eastern parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The corridor is also planned to connect with Metro Line 6 at Gandhi Nagar, linking the network toward Vikhroli and the western suburbs, and with Metro Line 2B at Siddharth Colony. At Bhakti Park in Wadala, commuters will have access to the Monorail and the planned Metro Line 11 corridor.
Road infrastructure will remain an important part of this network. The Eastern Express Highway provides access toward Mulund and central Mumbai, and LBS Marg connects the eastern suburbs through Bhandup and Vikhroli. The proposed Thane-Borivali twin tunnel is expected to create a more direct road connection between Thane and Mumbai’s western suburbs. Meanwhile, the Airoli-Katai Naka corridor is intended to improve road connectivity toward Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli.

Kasarvadavali and Gaimukh
These localities will benefit directly from the first phase because they are located at the corridor’s northern end. Kasarvadavali has become a residential destination with large housing complexes, schools, and everyday retail. Gaimukh, closer to the creek and the city’s northern edge, has more open surroundings and a growing focus on infrastructure and waterfront development. Metro access could make these areas attractive to residents traveling to central Thane while supporting existing residential projects.
Manpada and Dongripada
Manpada has a well-established residential market, supported by schools, healthcare facilities, shopping centers, and proximity to Yeoor Hills. Dongripada, meanwhile, has seen residential development along the Ghodbunder Road corridor, including gated communities and larger housing projects. For these localities, the metro’s value lies in adding a transport option alongside existing social infrastructure. Their established amenities can support demand from families seeking housing within Thane West.
Majiwada and Kapurbawdi
These localities sit at the junction of Ghodbunder Road, the Eastern Express Highway, and major commercial destinations. Majiwada benefits from established shopping and healthcare facilities, including Viviana Mall and Jupiter Hospital, while Kapurbawdi is positioned to become a key interchange point due to its planned connection to Metro Line 5. The metro could attract more residents and businesses to these areas, and the interchange would improve connections to Bhiwandi and Kalyan.
Cadbury Junction
Located near established parts of Thane, Cadbury Junction serves residential areas and offers good access to existing city infrastructure and road connections. Its placement on the first operational stretch will help connect older parts of Thane with areas along Ghodbunder Road. The wider corridor will also link this established urban area with newer residential developments farther north.
