Residents of Elathur and surrounding areas are strongly opposing the construction of a sewage treatment plant (STP) at Elathur, citing concerns about groundwater contamination, environmental degradation, and health hazards. The proposed site is within an area declared as a Biodiversity Heritage Site.

The Tamil Nadu government has renamed the Ukkadam–Athupalam flyover in Coimbatore in honor of Bharat Ratna awardee C. Subramaniam. Meanwhile , 32.40 km long, four-lane Coimbatore Western Bypass is expected to be operational by January 2026. And the Coimbatore Corporation has proposed establishing a ₹245-crore Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant at Ukkadam to improve water supply quality.
