Akkalkot, Solapur

Akkalkot Solapur is a municipal town in Solapur district, tucked close to the Maharashtra-Karnataka border. Its biggest claim to fame is the Swami Samarth Maharaj Temple - one of the most visited pilgrimage spots in the region and that keeps a fair bit of trade and footfall moving through town all year. Once you step past the temple stretch, though, it feels like an ordinary settled town: schools, a few colleges, hospitals and daily markets are all within a short distance, so it works reasonably well whether you're settling down here or renting out a place to pilgrims and traders passing through.
