Bhopal Metro is set to significantly enhance its operations with the upcoming launch of a new signalling system on the priority corridor between Subhash Nagar and AIIMS in July. This upgrade will enable two-way operations on both tracks, reducing waiting times from 75 minutes to 25 minutes and tripling service frequency.

Despite Bhopal's reputation as a 'City of Lakes,' the Upper Lake (Bada Talab) faces continuous threats from untreated sewage inflow and encroachment, impacting its status as a heritage site and a source of drinking water for nearly 40% of the city. The Lower Lake is suffering from eutrophication and plastic waste.

The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to cease its reliance on groundwater, decommissioning 111 tube wells to ensure an uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water from surface sources like the Narmada River and various dams.

Housing units constructed by the Bhopal Municipal Corporation under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) are reportedly showing signs of poor construction quality, with cracks, dampness, and peeling plaster appearing within a year of allotment. Residents have also reported that some basic facilities remain incomplete.

MP Cabinet has approved a significant development outlay of over ₹29,540 crore, with a substantial portion of ₹6,900 crore allocated for urban roads and infrastructure upgrades across the state. The Bhopal Metro project has entered a significant new phase with the commencement of underground tunneling. The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) 'Durgavati' has begun excavating at a depth of 24 meters, aiming to connect older parts of the city without disrupting surface traffic. This advanced 'mobile factory' will operate with zero vibration and noise pollution, promising minimal impact on daily life.
