Agra North is a most important region in the state of Uttar Pradesh and holds a special place of
importance in the politics of Agra as well. It is one of the five Agra Lok Sabha Constituencies
and is one of the 403 constituencies of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. It came into
existence in 2008 after the Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order.
Agra North Assembly constituency comprises Dayalbagh and Swamibagh Nagar Parishads along
with ward numbers 1, 5, 22, 26, 27, 31, 32, 33, 35, 42, 43, 45, 48, 51, 55, 62, 66, 70, 78 & 79
under the Agra municipal corporation
Agra contributes significantly to the historicity of India and it was once the jewel city in the
crown of the Mughal Empire in India. The city is known throughout the world as home to the Taj
Mahal and there are numerous other monuments, many of which have been declared as World
Heritage Sites by the UNESCO and they draw tourists to this city round the year. A tour of North
India would not be complete without a visit to this city and a lot of infrastructural developments
here have taken place in recent times for the benefits of the tourists. The city was the center of
art, commerce and learning under the Mughal rule and even today it remains to be the most
populous city in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It was also a major seat of rebellion during the Sepoy
Mutiny of 1857 and is an important seat of power in the modern political scenario in India.
