The Surat Metro Phase 1 is on track for an initial operational launch in June 2026, with trial runs currently being conducted on the Dream City to Althan Tenement stretch. The full network, spanning 40.35 km with 38 stations, is expected to be completed by December 2027.

Several new residential and commercial projects have been launched in Surat South, offering a range of housing options . These new launches, including projects in areas like Pioneer Luxury in Bhimrad, Nirman Laxmi Residency in Udhana, and Vaibhavi Ambika park in Bhestan, cater to various buyer preferences and are expected to contribute to the city's real estate growth.

The Gujarat government has allocated ₹2,217 crore for the expansion of the Surat Metro network as part of its ₹33,504 crore budget for the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department for 2026-27.. Additionally, ₹1,900 crore has been allocated under AMRUT Mission 2.0 to support water supply, drainage, and urban transport.

The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has invited bids for the construction of Economically Weaker Section (EWS-I) residential flats and shops under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) 2.0-AHP. The contract, valued at ₹160.76 crore, includes the development of flats at T.P. Scheme No. 54 (Bhestan) and encompasses complete construction, internal and external amenities.
