MMRDA to Launch Metro Lines 2B and 9, Bhoomipujan for Thane-Borivali Tunnel and BKC Pod Taxi on April 7

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will inaugurate Metro Line 2B (Phase I) and Metro Line 9 (Phase I), and conduct the bhoomipujan for the Thane–Borivali Twin Tunnel project and the pod taxi system in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on April 7. These projects aim to significantly reduce travel time, ease congestion, and improve connectivity across Mumbai's suburbs.

Mumbai Metro Expansion: Lines 9 and 2B to open by year-end

Two new stretches of the Mumbai Metro are scheduled to open by December 31, 2025. These include the Dahisar East to Kashigaon section of Metro Line 9 and the Diamond Garden to Mandale section of Metro Line 2B. This expansion aims to improve connectivity between Dahisar East and Mira-Bhayandar, as well as provide a crucial east-west corridor. Trial runs are underway already.

The central government has approved the transfer of 53.174 acres of salt land in Thane district to the Maharashtra government for the Dahisar to Vasai Creek road project, which aims to enhance traffic flow and connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The project is being implemented in two sections: Dahisar to Bhayandar, and Bhayandar to Vasai Creek.
