Actor and environmental activist Sayaji Shinde has cautioned the Nashik civic body against cutting trees to accommodate seers during the 2026-28 Simhastha Kumbh Mela. He suggested alternative locations for Sadhugram and questioned the necessity of large gatherings that pose risks to human life. This warning comes amid opposition from environmentalists to a proposal to fell 1,670 trees for Sadhugram.

A massive Rs 25,000 crore plan is in motion for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, focusing on making the Godavari River pollution-free, including upgrades to sewage treatment and sewerage systems, road access, and crowd management. The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is also planning a Rs 1,000 crore upgrade to the city's stormwater network to address waterlogging issues.
