The 1.49-kilometer-long New Saraighat Bridge, constructed parallel to the historic Saraighat Bridge, has become a crucial transportation link for Assam. It helps ease traffic congestion and improves connectivity between North and South Guwahati, strengthening movement along the East-West Corridor on National Highway-27.

Guwahati is grappling with a severe parking crisis, with roads increasingly becoming de facto parking lots, obstructing ambulances and causing accidents. This issue is particularly acute in areas like Chandmari. Concurrently, public infrastructure such as footbridges and water ATMs are in a dilapidated state too.

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation is set to transition to a fully green public transport system within the next 12 months . The Transport department will also introduce incentives for the public to purchase electric vehicles and establish charging infrastructure across the state.

Guwahati is rapidly emerging as the commercial powerhouse of Northeast India, fueled by significant infrastructure development. Key projects like the Guwahati Ring Road and the 6-lane Guwahati–North Guwahati Bridge are set to improve connectivity and unlock development potential. The expansion of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and the Dighalipukhuri Flyover will further enhance the city's infrastructure.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a concession agreement for the development of the 121-km long Guwahati Ring Road. The project, to be executed in Build-Operate-Toll (BOT) mode, involves a total cost of Rs. 5,729 crore, with the gross project cost standing at Rs. 7,000 crore. The Assam Government will contribute Rs. 1,270 crore.

Guwahati's infrastructure development is progressing with the Mayor unveiling a ₹132 crore roadmap for civic amenities, including street lighting and internal road improvements. . However, the ambitious ₹6,000 crore Guwahati Ring Road project faces scrutiny from the Gauhati High Court regarding forest clearance for tree felling within the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched blended hospitality services, including sleeping pods and a modern lounge, at Guwahati Railway Station. He also flagged off the Sairang-Silchar passenger train. These initiatives aim to improve passenger comfort and boost regional connectivity, facilitating easier movement of goods and people, and strengthening trade links in the Northeast.
