The Thane-Nashik Highway belt, from Majiwada to Ranjnoli/Kalyan, is entering a new growth phase due to 8-lane widening and the development of Mumbai-Thane freeway links. This infrastructure upgrade is expected to improve connectivity and facilitate economic activity along the corridor.
The Maharashtra government has approved the expansion of Mumbai Metro Line 5 and a new Line 5A corridor, creating a 34.2-km network across Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar at an estimated cost of Rs 18,130 crore.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning to construct a 21-kilometer flyover, potentially the longest in India, linking Shil Phata junction with Ranjnoli junction in Bhiwandi via Kalyan. This double-decker flyover will accommodate a four-lane road and metro rail tracks, integrating with other key infrastructure projects.
The Detailed Project Report for a 21-kilometer double-decker corridor between Shil Phata and Ranjnoli has been completed, and tenders will soon be released. This structure will feature a road flyover on the first level and a metro line on the second, aiming to ease traffic congestion and integrate metro connectivity across Kalyan, Bhiwandi, Thane, and Navi Mumbai, at a cost of ₹6,000 crore.
