Bhandara Road, Nagpur

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is actively widening Old Bhandara Road, having demolished over 200 properties to facilitate the project. This Rs 70-crore initiative aims to widen the 3-km stretch from Mayo Hospital to Sunil Hotel to alleviate traffic congestion. The expansion to 18 meters up to Bagdadi Square and 30 meters beyond is expected to significantly improve traffic flow in the area.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced road, highway, and urban mobility projects worth ₹1.5 lakh crore for Maharashtra in 2026, with a significant focus on Nagpur and Vidarbha. Key projects include the 9-km Nagpur–Katol stretch and a six-lane Nagpur–Bhandara highway, estimated to cost ₹2,000 crore. These developments are expected to significantly improve connectivity and reduce travel times within the region.

The Maharashtra cabinet approved ₹931.15 crore for the construction of the Bhandara–Gadchiroli Access Controlled Super Communication Expressway. This four-lane expressway will connect to the Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, enhancing connectivity and promoting regional development in Vidarbha.
